The shearing of the sheep continues . . .
to vote for a bond issue is the same as voting for a tax increase.

A "no" vote for the bonds is a yes vote for fiscal responsibility. GCS and the county have failed to demonstrate fiscal responsibility. When their money management skills improve, they will be rewarded with more.

I'll vote no on all of the school bonds, including Eastern, to once and for all send a message to GCS and others that we are sick and tired of them mismanaging our money.
The lottery, insurance, and existing taxes should provide plenty of funds to rebuild Eastern.
I will vote yes on the bond for a new jail. The overcrowding at jails is a real issue and this seems the only way that it will be resolved.
All of the other bonds are for things I believe existing tax revenue should cover if managed effectively.

Secondly, only property owners should be allowed to vote.
They are the ones who will be paying for these things.
And please don't bring up the idea that renters pay these taxes indirectly. Their landlords pay those taxes and they should be able to vote directly.
College students who have no stake should not be allowed to vote for bonds.

I'll vote for the Eastern bond and maybe for GTCC, but not the others. As a community, we still need to finish the job of rebuilding the high school, and GTCC has been a good catalyst for job retraining & growth in this region. Each of the others have had bonds in the past few years & with the economy going into recession, its a bad time to increase county spending/taxes.
A fear I have here is that if voted down, many of these county leaders will try to use Certificates of Participation which carry a higher interest rate & don't require a public vote for these projects.
Good job to the County Commisioners for breaking the school bonds up.

Nitpicker,
One thing you need to consider: just because a Guilford resident is renting, doesn't mean he/she won't be a property owner in the near future (what if a renter is closing on a house a month after the election?). And what if a homeowner is selling his home and moving out of the county? Should he get to vote?

I'm certainly voting yes for Parks & Rec. Greenways, Hagan-Stone, Triad Park, Handicapped athletics. These improve the quality of life immeasurably. I don't plan to use the skate park, but it may get the kids off the sidewalks at the shopping center.

Maybe the GTCC bond and possibly the Eastern bond, however I still have I hard time accepting how they came up so short on the amount insured versus the current shortfall.
NO HOW, NO WAY ON EVERYTHING ELSE.

I will vote no to all bond projects, except the new jail. I only vote for that one because the folks who serve will not do their jobs, and only spend what they receive from us the tax payers.
I still have a crawl about voting no to the Library in High Point, and the city bought the land and built it anyway...What a waste!!!

I would personally like to thank my representative in Southeast Greensboro Billy Yow for working hard to support the schools in his area. The others on the board have already secured funding for most of their schools and pet projects. Note the new high school in Northeast Guilford. Dudley was pretty much completely rebuilt. Soon Eastern will get a new school which they really do need to rebuild soon. In the meantime by separating out the bond it will surely make much needed improvements to the crumbling Alamance Elementary, Southeast Middle, and Southeast High impossible to fund. He did wake up in time to vote for a new jail. I am not critizing the others on the board in fact I admire them for representing their communities exceptionally. I simply wish to point out how poorly SE Guilford is represented on this board.
