Driver's license
Are these changes in getting your driver's license for the better? Do you have a story about getting your license you want to share?

I absolutely approve of the changes in renewing a person's driver's license. NC MUST have better controls in who may obtain a valid driver's license and/or state issued identification. Long overdue!!!

as usual more problems for the consumer of gernment services, less efficiency and more time required on everyone's part(dmv and drivers) just to eliminate less than one tenth of one percent problems. Does anyone realize that no, I repeat, no business, organization, or individual performs at 99.9+% effectiveness!!
If they truly wish to catch the cheaters, then let the driver or potential driver's license applicant submit their social security card copy some proscribed time in advance to DMV, then when they come for their license DMV would have had an oppportunity to check on the validity of the SSN that was submitted.
Look, I am 67 years old and had two driver's licenses(2 states)for too long to admit, while living here, and I let the NC license languish, not renewing, and when I had to reapply two years ago, I was told I needed to bring, birth certificate(Not copy) with
state impressioned seal, SS card, and one other form of ID which was a W-2 form. I received my new license in NC at that time.

I agree with all of it, excluding the property tax on your vehicle. This is one of the most outrageous taxes I've ever encountered. You pay tax on the vehicle when you buy it; why in the WORLD should you have to pay additional taxes every year?
I moved here from Buffalo, NY a few years back - the process for obtaining a driver license in that state requires you to do pretty much the same as is being proposed here - you wait to receive the actual license in the mail. They take your picture when you apply for the document, just as they do here. I was actually surprised that I was able to leave the DMV with my license in hand.

The last time I renewed my license I was told they could except a check stub with my Social
Security number on it. Every illegal person in the United States that's working for a major company has someones SS number on a check stub. Your current license with picture and telling them what your SS number is want get it.
How in the world did they issue me a license for 45 years if they could not identify me.
North Carolina DMV is screwed up.
