one word answer:

NO

No, absolutely not.

It's evident that tasers are a requried tool in the continuum of force for resource officers. Without the taser the deputy would have been forced to go to the next level of force.

And the student was carrying a box cutter. Need I say more?

It is evident that this young man needed to be taught a lesson...don't fight the police. He may do it again, but I bet he thinks twice before he does. In a word, no, the taser issue should not be revisited. It has been proven to save wear and tear on bodies, both law enforcement and criminal.

Should it be: No,

Will it be? Yes

I'd bet the farm that you're gonna hear about it cause the student involved was black. Those who look to play the race card will bring this up, since its obvious that this kid was tasered only cause he was black.

NO, not only NO, but **ll NO.

The deputy was only doing his job.

Any when Deena Hayes opens her big mouth on the subject I hope someone puts her in her place.

The officer used appropriate force to control a bad situation. There were four suspects. Anything could have happened. Sounds like the officer did a fantastic job. As far as I am concerned, there is nothing for the board to revisit. In fact, it is not even a news story. It is an SRO doing his job, and apparantly doing it well.

I am glad to see an officer who is not afraid of doing his job. Even though there are those that will rake him over the coals, he still did what had to be done. The kid is lucky it was just a Taser and not a baton or handgun. Our schools need some serious help.

the media does not have their facts right, i personally knew the studnet the student did not have a box cutter on him it was found later when they searched the student book bag which was in another class room at the time after the insident was over. i think just because the studnet was a stronge black man the officer want to control him i say they should revise the taser plan because the student almost died on the sence but...yea like i said the media makes the white man seem to be the hero but in the end every dog has it day

n/a - I assume you must have been the doctor who examined this student after the incident? Otherwise, on what basis do you contend that "the student almost died on the sence (sic)"?

By the way, this is some of the worst grammer I've seen in a long time. Are you a Guilford County Schools student?

The issue isn't race as the entries are hinting at. The issue is use of force, and its appropriateness. Increasingly, students are mimicking the "don't tase me bro" incident as if campus police/security were keystone cops. When they find out what a huge mistake it was to think such, they cry out "excessive force".

Should the policy be reviewed? Yes, but *only* if full details of the situation merits such action.

HELL, YEAH!

With all the weaponry that is available, without going through the legal procedures these days.
How can a law enforcement officer do his sworn duty to protect and defend?

What, use Deena Hayes face? (That's a scary thought, but, maybe useful.)

thinker said:

When I meant, Hell, yeah!

I mean it needs to be revisited, to sustain the use of tasers, and let it be known to all. That the policy of taser use, be strengthened and enforced to the maximum, provided by law.

Either that, or use the gun. Which do we prefer, because talking isn't gone to work with these kids anymore.

Yes. .. it should revisited...
All Guilford County employees should be trained and equipped with a taser..especially bus drivers!!

Yes!!!

RACE PLAYS A BIG ROLE IF THE STUDENT WAS WHITE THIS WOULD HAVE HAD WENT DOWN A LITTLE DIFFERENT JUST LIKE WHEN THE WHITE MALE STUDENT AT NORTHEAST SET OFF A FIRE WORK IN THE LUNCH ROOM HE DIDNT GET ''TASERED'' AND HE DID THIS TWICE IN ONE WEEK FOR ALL YOU KNOW IT COULD OF BEEN A GUN BUT LIKE I SAID ITS BOUT IF YOUR BLACK OR WHITE AND IF YOU BLACK EVERYONE AGAINST YOU. KEEP THE PEACE STOP THE HATE. COPS STOP BEATING UP BLACK PEOPLE AND KILLING THEM R.I.P TO ALL THE BLACKS WHO WERE KILLED BY THE HATERS AKA CROOKED COPS

Race does not play a role in this situation. If I was the cop and the dude tried to hit me and stick his hands in his pocket, I wouldn't think twice. Everyone always blames the race card. What difference does it make? There are laws and they are there for a reason, not just because of someones skin color. The people that always blame the race card, well they themselves are the pointers. You say that they place race but what are you doing. The guy was trying to protect himself. What would you do in the same situation? Im sure the same thing!!

Kudos to the majority of you for standing up for the School Resource Officer's (SRO) right to carry a taser. Had he not been carrying that non-lethal weapon, the situation would have turned out much, much worse. The SRO could have used pepper spray to subdue the student, but his office is quite small and the spray would have also gotten on the other students who were not trying to escalate the situation, and would have been unfair. Alternatively, the SRO could have pulled his firearm. This would have escalated the situation greatly and was not the right course of action.

The taser worked perfectly in the close quarters of the office and subdued the student without injury to himself, the other students in the office or the SRO. In fact, the person who sustained the greatest physical injuries in the entire situation was the officer - when the student grabbed and hit his arm, he was strong enough to nearly fracture it.

To "n/a" and "BLACK POWER 4 LYFE," thanks for living up to the stereotype, we're all very impressed. Think about this - perhaps if this student had made the conscious decision NOT to peddle his drugs on school property, this could have been avoided! An astounding realization, that. Perhaps if the student had simply submitted to an authority figure (the SRO) and owned up to his crime (like a man) he would have never been tased, but instead, he attacked the SRO like the animal he so obviously is, and was met with reasonable force. Had he received an appropriate upbringing from his parents, this would never have happened. Had he actually had a desire to live a decent life as part of society, this would never have happened.

The sad reality is that the vast majority of today's young, black males want to become a rap/hip-hop star or a professional athlete. Therefore, they feel that they can ignore what little parental guidance and support they receive and the attempts of the school they attend to give them a free education. Instead, they prefer to be "thugs" and participate in the growing crime wave flooding Greensboro today, just waiting for the opportunity of a lifetime to be placed squarely in their laps without effort. Everything I have just mentioned I cannot take credit for - it was told by a young, black male during an interview for a scholarship. He is the minority, and is heeding the words of Bill Cosby and trying to better himself and his community instead of deferring to the norm and blaming "the man." The black community need to look within for solutions instead of constantly placing blame everywhere else and laying down the race card at every opportunity.

I'm sure everyone who works at Northeast Guilford wishes that this event never had to transpire - the sad reality is that it did, and would never have happened at that school had the school board, in their infinite wisdom, never decided to bus the offspring of the dregs of society to McLeansville. Only once bussing is stopped will Guilford County again be a flourishing school system, with problems centered in only 2-3 schools.
