Do you think the Guilford school system's initial budget request is reasonable?

NO! As I've pointed out elsewhere, we are throwing good money after bad, holding up a teetering monstrosity that is failing our children and our community.

As I've also mentioned, I would end the public (socialized) education system in favor of private, competetive, secular and religious schools (NO government funding or involvement), with scholarships funded by private foundations of many kinds.

Put the buildings up for auction and go from there. Government has NO business in the educational enterprise. So, end the funding and end the debacle of violence, riots, massacres, (Columbine-Columbia, SC - remember just recently!) sexual abuse (count the increasing numbers even locally!),
academic failure, and atheistic, left-wing indoctrination. Vote no!

I know; we're saddled with the system for the foreseeable future. I suppose we'll just have to wait until the groundswell of utter chaos and dissolution catches up with the general public before anything substantial ensues.

The best we can do for now is to oppose tax-funding and build alternative schools. I just hate what it's doing to the kids: going to school in fear, putting up with abuse of all kinds, and chaotic classrooms of non-education. The system is broken - toss it, and begin again. Radical? No, necessary!

Don't worry folks, all is not lost - you can still have cheerleaders, and football team - even senior proms!, if you're so inclined.

I agree, the public eduction system is at least 4 steps below a disgrace.Should be abolished!
I agree with another author who said that the public school system, along with it's teachers' unions, and the terriosts, present equal threats to the security of this USA.
