I MOVED TO GBORO FOR SEVERAL REASONS....FROM NORTHERN VA.....ONE OF THEM BEING BECAUSE THE COST OF LIVING WAS SO MUCH BETTER HERE......TO RENT A APT IN DC ITS ABOUT 1000 A MONTH NOW I JUST SAW AN ADD FOR A STUDIO IN DOWNTOWN GBORO FOR 900 THATS CRAZY...TATS ABOUT THE SAME AS YOU COULD RENT A STUDIO IN DC......THAT DOES NOT MATCH UP WHEN A CONDO IN NORTHERN VA IS 350,000 AND YOU CAN BUY ONE OUTSIDE OF GBORO FOR 80,000 BUT IN THE CITY THERE 300,000......THE PAY HERE IS NOT THE SAME AS IT IS NORTH YOU CANT UP PRICES WITH OUT ADJUSTING INCOME....

I'd love to live in a downtown high rise. It's just that no one is building units that are in the 100k to 150k range.

The downtown prices are way out of line for the type of city Greensboro is. That said, I'm more of a suburban type person anyway, so even if the costs were lower I doubt I'd buy there.
Like Cheryl said, there really isn't a market here to charge Washington DC - like prices... they shouldn't even be charging Charlotte-like prices.

I can buy a comfortable single-family home on a fairly good-sized lot in a great neighborhood just 2 miles up the road for less than I'd pay for a decent condo downtown.
I guess if I really, really, really wanted to avoid yard work... Course, I could put my savings into hiring the teenager down the street to mow my lawn each week and still come out ahead.
For the price, I think I'll take my privacy and my backyard over condo living, thanks.

Why would I?
Do I want to be target practice?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Like 'citizen' says, why would I and do I want to be target practice? I think not!!! My daughter and I were confronted just last night trying to get to the baseball game. People are MEANER than most dogs these days. We are just two good ole country gals and we love it!! You couldn't pay me enough to LIVE DOWNTOWN GREENSBORO!!

I disagree with what many have posted above. I moved downtown back in December in the new CityView Apartments at Southside and I love it! The rent is not bad, my studio apartment is around $650 per month and thats REALLY good for luxury apartments in a downtown setting. There is talk of potentially building a restaurant and an upscale small grocery store across from CityView. With the gas prices these days I wouldnt mind at all walking to get things that I need. If only my job were downtown I wouldnt hardly have to every drive my car.

Heck no. Greensboro is not a safe place to live anymore -- downtown or anywhere.

No way. I would never feel safe. I love the downtown but would never consider living there. I live in a townhouse off north Elm st. and that is close enough for me.

I moved from a relatively-rural area of North Greensboro to N Elm St almost a year ago. I love living downtown! I'm less than a mile from work now, so I've really cut back on my trips to the gas stations. I spend more time parking my car in the deck than I do driving to the work.
If cost weren't an issue, I'd certainly live in Center Pointe. After I initially heard about the condos, I was disappointed to learn that their price would be out of reach for most young professionals in the Greensboro market. Young married professionals without kids don't seem to have a gathering spot--I was hoping that a downtown living community would create one.

Greensboro is getting to be a CRAP hole just like Durham. Why would anyone pay that much to live in the down town area of a cesspool.
