Should the state DOT build more noise abatement walls to help quell the noise from the western portion of the Urban Loop?

Sound absorbing walls work best

We were told we had sound absorbing walls but I think they must have put them inside out. Seriously tho, this is no joke. We have the walls but the noise is still terrible. Can't imagine what it would be like without them. I think DOT has a mess of angry folks to answer to. I expect they'll find a reason or two to pass their mistakes on to someone else. Point is they used old maps and info and a total disregard for the people living near the road. DOT needs to be reined in by our state gov. and our Reps. and Senators should take a close look at DOT's disregard for our citizens and also the large amount of financial waste they have spent. Our tax dollars at work. We have one of the highest gasoline taxes in the nation and still they want more. We can only hope that others; soon to be disturbed by the DOT; will keep a close eye on DOT's work. Those of you who have not been affected yet, should really try to make it to their meetings so that you can be aware of what may happen to you. It's to your benefit to be aware and on top of things, altho we thought we were and here we are.

My family and I live in an area where walls were put up. Our house is approx. (6) "city" blocks from the wall. But the noise is unbelievable. We've noticed that there is space for two walls to be attached together but the DOT has only installed one. Also the nice looking section of the wall is facing the traffic leaving the residents to stare at a ugly piece of concrete. What an insult. We also do not feel the walls are tall enough in many places as you can actually see the tractor trailors over top of the walls going 75 mph. I believe the State should put walls over the bridges where there is heavy residential population as the noise "empties" all over our neighborhood where the wall has an opening. I plan to go to the State meeting and will speak in favor of walls where none are. I just can't imagine what it must be like to live in a neighborhood where there are no walls at all. Every consideration should be made by the State to alleviate the physical and emotional "mess" they have made to the southwest section of Greensboro. This would include berms, evergreen trees, and walls. As public servants, they have a responsibility to the residents of Greensboro to provide a safe environment free of noise and air pollution based on up-to-date information. Let's hope they have the sense to make good decisions and not hide behind the idea that the walls were decided upon 10 years ago and that's the only way it's going to be.

David, you are right, that NC DOT needs to fix this mess! The studies shown us, for our neighborhood, did not have correct information, population, traffic counts, and truck traffic, NC DOT staff, has admitted that the traffic counts per the EIS document were wrong, but who will correct that. The person who was the expert for noise for the state when the EIS was written, has retired, and who knows what will be used nor not used. I will be amazed if they come back and say that they have made a mistake, but the mistake started before they started. And to think at $43 million plus per mile, you would think some care for the citizens would had been taken. The maps that Joyce stated, I was shown and told that was why our neighborhood would not get noise wall on 1 side of the road, when in fact the photo was not correct for the date of public knowledge, as staff keeps refrencing. If you look hard, I would bet that DELL and FED EX had strong interest in the road being completed by 2009, to go along with the incentives they recieved. The best word for dealing with is GOOD LUCK, and get ready to be mad!

If you live near the West Market Street to Bryan Blvd area and think the noise is bad now, just wait until the Fed Ex planes join in!!
