The tax deadline of April 15th has been so for many years. I do not understand why people think they should wait until the last minute to post and mail their taxes. If you are waiting because you owe money, why do you think a postal employee wants to work until midnight so you can save a few dollars. Come on people, take some responsibility for your actions. Would you want to work at your job until midnight so someone you don't know can save a few dollars? I doubt it.

I agree with Lin.........it is not the responsibility of the Post Office to accomodate the taxpayers lack of foresight to get their taxes done knowing full well that April 15th comes around the same way every year. Why wait until the last minute? These are the same people who wait until the last minute for everything and then blame others who have no obligation to accomodate them, beyond their normal duties. Like people who arrive late for flights and expect the airline to wait for them and are angry when they don't. What about the rest of us who do things on time?

I'm sorry, but I have to agree with Lin and Karen. File on April 14th. You should have no problems. What costs the Post Office more money (like accommodating procrastinators), costs ALL of us, including those who do this stuff on time or, gasp, even early, money. I doubt that the late filers are paying for that overtime for Post Office workers to help them run late.

Sorry, guys. You're blaming the victims here. Whether you should or shouldn't procrastinate isn't the question. It's human nature when you're dealing with a deadline. The problem is that the post office changed the way they did things without telling anybody. There were no employees to ask and, more importantly, no signs posted to tell you what to do (or what not to do.) And relying on an automated postal center is just a copout. Machines break down, at the least convenient times. And indeed it did break down. The Greensboro post office screwed up royally.

Still, Dave, there's no law stating that post offices HAVE to stay open late to accommodate late filers. It is not their duty to do so; it is simply a convenience that people have grown to rely on. While I do think it would have been better if the post offices had forewarned customers that they would not be staying open late, to say that not having people standing outside until midnight so you can hand them your last-minute taxes through your car window is "ridiculous" is... well, ridiculous.

Channel 8 news gave locations and times for the post offices that were handling tax returns. I am sure they were not the only media to do so. I would not change the post office hours next year. Maybe the last minute filers learned a lesson this year. Try e-filing.

I'd like to see the post office cut residential mail deliveries to three days a week and eliminate all mail but first class mail. Cut hours, cut services, and cut postal workers with a corresponding cut in mailing costs.
