I plan to move to a diiferent county (seriously)-- Davidson County or Rockingham County. It's not that far and will be a lot less frustrating.

I’m with you, already in the planning stages. This is ridiculous! They need to learn to budget the same way that families have to. They waste so much money, its crazy!!

GREENSBORO SUCKS AND LOVES TO WASTE MONEY! WITH THE SCHOOL BOND, IT COMES OUT TO OVER $60K PER KID. HOW IS THAT? PEOPLE ARE SNOWED IN SOCIETY AND THEY WILL JUST KEEP TAXING US TO DEATH. QUIT PASSING THESE BONDS AND THROWING MONEY AWAY PEOPLE!

1. Cut administraion. There is to much delegation, which intern "justifies" the hiring of useless administrators at thee upper levels.
2. Go back to the way the school system was BEFORE the merger. The merger was done unfairly anyway(populus vote, city residents outnukbered county residents 4:1, but 95% of county residents voted against the merger). Guilford County Schools used to be a productive, safe environment. Greensboro City was similar as was High Point city schools.
Less money was spent with better results, but Greedy Greensboro wanted the money that was going to the county schools, plus the county schools (Directionally named ie. North East) became a dumping ground for under achieving, trouble making students.
3. Put discipline (paddling) back in schools. More classroom control, structure, and more authority to the individual principals, would allow less to be spent on SRO's while creating a learning environment.

Forgot the most important point. NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOLS!. Let kids go to the school closest to them and they may care about it. That is part of why people buy homes/rent homes where they do is based on school district. It is time for the school board to quit over socializing our schools and concentrate on academics, not hiring people to figure out why lil Suzy is a trouble kid. Education is not supposed to be a baby sitting service(parents need to be responsible for their childs behavior problems),
education should not be a right, it is a PRIVELAGE.

M, where did you come up with the $60,000 per kid number? Bond=$412 million, about 70,000 kids in gcs schools, I'm coming up with about $6000 per kid.

Scott is right - I feel that neighborhood schools are the key to success. It's quite obvious that all the bussing and socializing nonsense hasn't worked.
We definitely need to invest in education, but trimming the fat and fixing current problems (merger/bussing/etc) is the first step to fixing all the problems.
