I moved away 10 years ago but I'll always remember Dusty Dunn on WCOG. He was my favorite DJ when discovered radio as a child. I rarely heard him on WKEW because I worked out of town but he was a good talk radio guy. He stuck to matters that affected Greensboro.

He made Greensboro a better place.

Are you kidding me? Legends can't retire.

Dusty, cue up KC and the Sunshine band and roll it non-stop until the message sinks in: Please Don't Go, Don't Gooooo...

Dusty Dunn is The Voice of Greensboro, an inspiration and a tremendous talent.

DUSTY DUNN WILL ALWAYS BE THE VOICE OF GREENSBORO. SOME OF MY BEST DAYS IN THE BUSINESS WAS BEING DUSTY'S ENGINEER AT WBIG AND AT WKEW. ALWAYS REMEMBER THE GREENSBORO MONARCHS BEST YEARS WITH DUSTY AT THE MIKE AND ME BEING THE MUSIC MAN ENTERTAINING THE FANS. DUSTY DUNN WILL ALWAYS BE ALONG WITH BUDDY BRAY ONE OF MY CLOSEST FRIENDS. RADIO IN GREENSBORO WILL NEVER SEE A TALENT LIKE DUSTY AGAIN.

I WILL MISS OUR MORNING CONNECTION TOGETHER, HAVING HAD THE PLEASURE OF BEING DUSTY'S SPORTS DIRECTOR FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS. LIKE MOST OF OUR LISTENERS, I WAS A LISTENER FOR YEARS AND WILL MISS HIS HUMOR, STORIES AND LAUGH: JUST TO NAME A FEW. LIKE MOST LISTENERS, IT JUST WON'T BE THE SAME WITHOUT "DD" ON THE AIRWAVES.........HANG ON TO THOSE MEMORIES. I THINK WE ALL KNOW WHAT WE APPRECIATE BEFORE IT'S GONE THIS TIME. AFTER THIS FRIDAY MAY 30TH. DUSTY WILL BE GONE FROM RADIO. GOOD LUCK, GRAY SQUIRREL! YOU WILL BE MISSED, I THINK, MORE THAN YOU KNOW.

Will not miss him at all.....

Thanks for the memories, Dusty. And the Happy Birthday singing and the birthday cake.. and the Hinky Pinky prizes over the years. You are the best. Enjoy retirement. You have earned it.

The comedic irony in Jack Murphy's comment had me falling on the floor laughing. Unable to top that riotous Friar's Club-like loving insult, let me say this:

I'm sure there's more to Dusty's "retirement" than is revealed in Jerri's piece, and for Greensboro's sake, lets hope that "retirement" is temporary. As the number of truly local voices on commercial radio dwindle to a precious few, guys like Dusty Dunn can't be duplicated or home grown anymore, since most stations are minimally staffed and syndicated programming is the rule. I worked at the same station (WKEW) as Dusty did back in 1997 for a few months, and he was the model of class you'd expect (under extremely difficult conditions, as the owner at that point was a psychopath...as so many of them are).

All the best to you, Dusty, and many years ahead of good health and cheer to you.

Scottie King said:

Greensboro will not be the same without hearing all the news from you...Enjoy your retirement and I would love to hear from you sometime! Take care of your dad and yourself!

Just glanced at the print edition yesterdaY and saw Dusty's Five "Desert Island" songs listed but can't remember all of them. I don't see them in
the on-line. Can anybody help?

First time I sang for Dusty was when he was still working at the radio station at Four Seasons and I was doing Patsy Cline at The Barn Dinner Theatre. He's always been one of my biggest supporters and biggest fans. Come to think of it, I've always been one of his biggest supporters and biggest fans. I guess we have a mutual admiration society. I'll miss knowing I can hear your voice whenever I want simply by turning on my radio.

I first tuned into the Dusty Don Show on WKEW in 1990; when I was looking for a good AM Talk Radio Show in order to familiarize myself with the Greensboro, NC area. Every morning, before I would attend class at NC A &T, I would listen. To me he was definitely the voice of Greensboro.
After moving back to my hometown of Chicago, I
always wondered what happened to him and if their was a webcast of his show. It's bittersweet
to find out that he is still broadcasting today and
I caught him in his final week on the air.

We are losing a legend from radio. Dusty has been around for as many years as I have. We had mutual friends but the thing I remember most is making a trip to Ft Bragg with Dusty in the back seat and having to listen to him from the time we left Greensboro until the time we returned-I think he loved the sound of his own voice-lol- Good luck Dusty!!

The above comment from Jack Murphy (morning dj of the triads teen-pop fm non-supa power station) proves one thing > "jack your insecurity is showing"! For you to take a cheap shot at Dusty Dunn who has never been a threat to you and your poney-ass station, simply because you play Britney Spears, and Dusty Dunn has always been a talk radio guy is actaully ignorant. Two totally different formats people. AM TALK & FM POP.....Maybe you should consider getting back into that LA WEIGHT LOSS program, but this time for your head. Godspeed Dusty Dunn. Oh by the way ..."jack it must suck that you have to be part of the Britney Spears crowd"

There has never been and never will be another Dusty Dunn. He had his opinion on controverial things, but he was always fair to both sides of any subject. I don't listen to the radio anymore. Nothing worth listening to since Dusty left. Happy retirement Dusy
