Living wage

Paying a "living wage" to all Guilford school system employees doesn't appear to be likely. But should it be something the school board looks at seriously?

Why not just mandate a minimum wage of $50,000.00 and end all poverty?

Laura James said:

Nah. Instead of paying a $5 a year to invest in human capital, Republicans would much rather pay $1,000s, so that private military contractors can enjoy lives of obscene luxury.

Pay these people a living wage. These people are feeding our children, cleaning up after our children and transporting our children to school.

Either pay a living wage OR let these groups Unionize to collectively bargain for their compensation.

A one of "these people", please let me address the gentleman who thinks that it is not his responsibility to improve the economic condition of Guilford County. Isn't that one of the goals of educating children? To do this you must have the best people you can find. These people need to be able to focus on the children and not be wondering where their next meal is coming from. Maybe this gentleman would like to try the job and try living on the salary for awhile. I think he would find that it is not so easy. Everything is going up and they are proposing a 1.5% raise---not even enough to pay for gas to drive to work. Teachers's cannot do this with out the support staff----no way! Without "these people" everyone's life in Guilford County would be drastically different.
