With all the construction, roads, etc. that have taken place, wouldn't you think all that had been decided upon? Who gets a chance to "do over?" Haven't they already made a commitment? If not, then our leaders certainly took a great deal for granted. A deal is a deal. No do overs!

Paul said:

Absolutely. They are creating jobs. Look at the money that has been given to non profits that produce nothing and provide very few jobs.
Project Homestead, Civil Rights Museum and many others for all races.

If my memory serves me, the State, County, and probably everybody esle has given FedEx millions in incentives already. Why are they begging for more? Does anyone in their right mind think that FedEx will not open the hub after all they've invested? If the county has tax incentive money to throw around they can give me some. I could threaten to move out. I doubt that they would give me one red cent. That's what FedEx should get.

We should welcome FedEx with open arms, not open wallets. Is it now the business of the taxpayer to subsidize every job? My businesses employ 27 and pay taxes which apparently Paul wants now to give to FedEx. I would rather sell Paul's house, car and assets and give them Paul's money.
And pointing to past mistakes as justification for more such is unwise. Just because we have wasted money in the past does not mean it's a good time to waste more.
Funny how the conservatives say "Government should not be about redistribution of wealth" until its time for them to reach their hands into the pockets of others. Let FedEx sink or swim on their own.

1. It was clear in the article that it has nothing to do with the HUB currently under construction at PTI - it's a ground HUB that would be located in Kernersville.

2. It's a competitive situation. The incentive would not be to help Fed Ex - it would be to make our market more attractive than other areas in order to get the Hub - You give them nothing and you risk losing it to another area competing for it.

3. The city gave Roy Carrol 2 million in incentives to build Centre Pointe - This Fed Ex hub would have a far greater impact on the Triad economy.

I think Guilford County shoud do whatever is in their power to attract businesses and jobs to the region. When much of the country is seeing a decline or very slow economic growth, I think it is the responsibility of our commissioners to help ensure we don't follow the same path.

In addition, the creation of this ground hub, along with the air hub, and expansion of Piedmont Triad Airport will make this region more attractive for other businesses. I believe this region is prime to see an economic bum because of the cost of living, quality of living, and vicinity of all the existing and future interstates.

As far as the incentives....the county really isn't "giving" Fedex anything. If they decided not to build their hub here, then not only do we lose out on the jobs it would bring, but the county would lose over a half million dollars of tax revenue that they would still keep.

NO! Corpoate welfare has got too stop somewhere sometime. Why not take the lead for a change. We have given FEDX enough.
Even though they may be unrelated company
operations it's still the same company.
NO!

I saw where the proposed site was Kernersville, which is Forsyth County. Where are they in this whole process? I think they should give up some tax payer extortion money too.

This just in from a reliable source: "Apparently, the FedEx ground hub is to be "located on a small portion of Old Greensboro Road that loops into Guilford County."

How about incentives for the smaller businesses in the community! History has shown those are the ones that create the most jobs and stay put when the going gets tough. FedEx will most likely just "lease" the ground hub facility, just like the air hub. Makes it easy for them to simply pull out, if the going gets tough.

How do we know that "it's not a done deal?" I don't believe that for one minute. It makes too much sense for Fedex to locate a distribution hub near their shipping center to believe that it's an iffy proposition. They are just saying that to win over the commissioners. I'm sick of corporate welfare. there should be a federal law against it.

I agree with Mr. Partridge. Huge public corporations have no loyalty to country or community. They don't think twice about leaving people in the lurch as soon as a better opportunity beckons. That money would be better spent on something like the Civil Rights Museum which might not provide as many jobs, but would be a huge tourism and economic development project, and would benefit locally owned small businesses such as restaurants, lodging, gas stations, gift shops etc.
