The Auditorium is a dump now and needs fixing, but i doubt I would vote yes. We don't need anymore tax hikes and we are being taxed and feed to death in this city. There has to be a way to get this done, but I don't see it passing the way folks are around here.

I have a great idea. Why doesn't Matt Brown give up some of his BIG FAT SALARY and put it towards the renovations? What a joke. I can't believe this guy makes the salary that he does. The coliseum is crap. They do not have good shows. They make you pay for parking. This city keeps building apartments, condos and cramming people in (which only puts money in the pockets of the greedy developers here (and we know who they are....they are the few rich people in this city)but does not keep up with the growing crime rate and more demand of Police officers on the streets, but yet they are wanting to spend millions on a building. This is ridiculous. But that is what this city is all about. I'm so ashamed to live here anymore. Cut back Mitch Johnson and Matt Brown's ridiculous salaries. They do not deserve that kind of pay. Shame on this city for giving them raises!!!

I'd like to see how this renovation will bring in better acts to the city. Can the coliseum officials show us performers that have declined to play in Greensboro because of the condition of the facility?
Maybe if they brought in some better performers, people would be more willing to vote for the renovation. I think the voters want to see how this will benefit the citizens other than having an expensive and new but unused facility. What this city really needs is a good live music venue.

VOTE NO!
This is WAY TOO MUCH MONEY.
Westover Church built a whole new building that seats about 2800-3000 people. The total cost was $25 million. And is much nicer than anything the City has in mind for the War Memorial Auditorium. It is a state of the art facility, with the best lighting and sound capabilities. How can they build a complete building for $25 million and the city can't renovate one for less than $$50 million? Sounds like someone in padding their pockets.

No way will I vote for this. After the last batch of referendums past, I'm wondering how I'm going to pay next years taxes. How can they expect people to keep paying more and more taxes every year? I understand that taxes will go up because of inflation, but give us a break here. They need to start being a little more frugal with our tax money and put it towards the necessities.

Keeping it Real makes a good point. Didn't know that.
It is a dump and I voted against it last time and most likely again this time. Same with the swim facility. I'm getting taxed out and its becoming too much.
Trudy Wade made a good point about including a statement on the ballot that your taxes may go up as a result of voting for these things. It's hard to believe people don't know the connection.
It's time hire a consultant to see what naming rights to the entire complex would bring. The corporate monocle would also indirectly help put Gso on the map more so.

I would imagine if Mr. Brown had an acceptable offer for the naming rights to the coliseum, he would accept it, no consultant needed.
I am amazed that everyone on hear complains about the shotty coliseum, the high crime, and in the next breath says they wouldn't pay for it. 12.50 on a 200k house is not that much. Chicken or the egg?
Yes, I know the city wastes money, but so do you, we all do. The problem is that the money they waste is on a larger scale (probably not % wise but total) and in the public eye. I bet you would be amazed how much money you waste if you sat down and totaled it up: soft drinks, eating out, smoking, drinking, etc... Your neighbors would probably mock you on forums such as this.

I would like to see a analysis of the CVM and War Mem and see what they really mean to this city.
That seems like necessary information in order to make an informed decision. Quality of life stuff can be taken into account on a more personal basis by individual voters.
I believe we will find each, even though they lose money as stand alone businesses, are tremendous economic assets to Gso.
Can the News and Record get on that? I would like to see how much each loses as a business/building, how much each generates in revenues to the local economy and how much taxes are generated by those revenues that go to the city, county, state, whatever. Throw the proposed pool in there too.
Seems historical data and analysis as well as projected figures could be used for a sort of before and after picture.
