These people are illegal. They broke into our house. If someone breaks into your house, they go to jail. If NC had not handed out driving permits to these illegals. This mess would not be this big. Simple answer, pay a bounty of $100 to anyone that reports a illegal. Work the ones you catch, $5000 worth of work. You must feed and house them, while they are working. Set up road blocks and catch them, driving drunk, expired stickers, expired license plates. No car insurance. I know this will PO some folks at the NR, I read the article last week, that is profiling to catch illegals, breaking the law. Just act like it normal NC residents, that go face this all the time.

I noticed that some at the N&R feel that the 287g program was misused when a library worker was arrested for using a false Social Security number to gain employment. Well many may feel like this is not a serious offense but they are oh so wrong. I have been an officer for 12 years. I have investigated many cases of ID Theft where illegals have used another person's SSN to gain employment. What happens is the IRS sent a notice to the victim (real owner of the SSN) advising them that they had not paid taxes on income received. This is a nightmare for the victims as they try to explain to the Fed Government how they could not have worked in NC when they have lived in Arizona for the past 20 years.
This has a negative effect on the victims credit report etc. Perhaps L.A. will loan out her SSN to the next illegal alien who wants to work in a local library.
Also if an illegal alien is arrested for an offense and the victim's SSN is used when the defendant is processed the victim will show to have a criminal history when their information is checked using the SSN.

I guess some have decided that some laws are more important than others. Those who violate American sovereignty by entering the country illegally or remaining here illegally get a pass because they are "hardworking", or have families here, etc. (I am tempted to use one of these excuses next time I get stopped for a traffic violation. I doubt, however, that the officer will be sympathetic.)

It gets even worse, however, in that people here illegally actually get to reap the benefits of being here, such as attending schools, colleges, etc. (there are a number of states that actually give illegal immigrants instate tuition rates, while charging U.S. citizens from other states much higher non-resident rates). In N.C. they pay out of state rates, but even these rates do not cover the full cost of their education and amount to a subsidy from government.

There are a myriad of reasons why the answer to this question is an unequivocal "no".

I think it is a real smack in the face to those of us who happen to be American born. There are many hard working "legal" immigrants who applied for their paper work legally and earned the right to be here. The government really let us down...esp. our overpaid politicians who are allowing this! Illegal means ILLEGAL! Why should someone who is NOT supposed to be here given the same rights as citizens who abide the law and are legally entitled to it? Who is paying for their tuition? Guess what folks ...you are.....I'll bet all those grants and aid you middle class people can't get for your children is going to be going toward the illegal ones, who lets face it...can't afford to pay....So you will be...GUARANTEED! What is wrong with this picture. I was told as a teen that driving was a privilege not a right.....so illegal immigrants(who shouldn't be here illegally should be afforded the same rights as me...when I had to earn them? Tell me how mANY OF THOSE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS ARE GOING TO ACTUALLY pay FOR THEIR OWN EDUCATIONS AND WILL THEY SIGN UP TO FIGHT FOR OUR COUNTRY...i'LL BET THE ANSWER TO BOTH OF THOSE QUESTIONS IS NO...NO...A THOUSAND TIMES NO!

I wonder whether our Native Americans still carry a grudge. Our forefathers did not carry passports or legal status upon their arrival. The Irish, Scotts and Italians that migrated to the land of opportunity in the 1800s, and then the Greeks in the 1900s, were not accepted by the ones who came before, and many were illegal or US immigration policy allowed easy citizenship. Sure appears that many citizens are ethnocentric and supportive of the old caste system.

Most of the illegals are coming here to pursue a better life through hard work, other than not wanting to go back to their native country, they are law abiding people.

Yes...Duck many are BUT THEY ARE STILL ILLEGAL AND NOT ENTITLED TO THE SAME EQUAL RIGHTS I HAD TO EARN AS AN AMERICAN BORN CITIZEN.I have no problem with people doing it the right way but when illegals come in seeking welfare and benefits and now college(with no money to pay for it) How is the fair to those of us who worked for the right to be here .Illegals should not have the same entitlements that the rest of us have UNLESS they go through the process of becoming legal. Let's just allow everyone and anyone into the country to do as they please......why not right...as long as the politicians aren't affected.you know...not next door to me...but otherwise it is o.k.

Duck, what planet do you live on. The jails are running over with these people! They drive with no car insurance, drive while drinking at a amazing rate. Of course the Raleigh NO blamed this on the Americans, they say we should sponsor programs to teach the not do drive and drink. UNC already has a program to teach them to take advantage of the system, paid for by the taxpayers. Bet you never read that in a liberal newspaper! They are law breakers just by crossing the boarder.

The illegal immigrants do not receive social security, medicare or food stamp payments, but no doubt do receive some free health care from hospitals that receive them, if they have enough nerve to show up at the hospital.

Please take note, that the social security and medicare recipients receive far more than was ever paid during their working lives and for many their non working lives, in the case of medicare payments. Medicare payments for the elderly exceed their social security payments. So the argument above is more acceptable if they were citizens, but really never paid the vast sums they are now receiving? So according to the above argument, these citizens should not be given these benefits either.

Lastly, I stated all should be taxed, it is a practical solution to a difficult problem, but let these people put on the roofs, build the roads, schools and churches as they have be doing for the last 10 or more years. Those that criticize are the benefactors of inexpensive services and products. Really what are you to do, not eat the tomato that was picked by the illegal Mexican, or avoid the bathrooms that are cleaned by them, or not attend the church whose concrete was laid by the illegal subcontractor, or avoid the restaurants whose employs the illegal workers as dishwashers. Much of this activity is supported and contrived by legal citizens. Talk to your neighbor about their employment practices, and as you go through the day take notice of the illegal workers role in making your day easier and certainly less expensive.
