My Rep. is Brad Miller and I do not agree with the way he voted. He voted "Yes" and I feel that this is a cop out. Congress has consistently avoided helping out the middle class and now wants to help save banks. Representative Miller stated something to the effect of, "the world would slow down, if we only used cash". Well, whether he knows it or not most of the lower middle class people I know are already operating on cash only.

I will not support a bailout bill until it contains more consumer protections, promises greater government oversight of financial institutions, and allows taxpayers to receive a portion of future profits from the firms that are given tax money.

On a side note, the News & Record should report on how North Carolina's Congressional delegation votes on legislation much more often. I would like to see a weekly "How They Voted" report whenever Congress is in session. Same goes for the state legislature.

Blaine E. Mack said:

Senator Dole was a fiscal coward for voting for a welfare bailout for Wall Street. She has never cared about the struggles of the average North Carolinian. She dines with the wealthy, and North Carolina gets the crumbs.
