That is one of the most ridiculous notions I've heard. I guess we shouldn't use Bank of America because it is originally from San Francisco and RBC Centura because that was a North Carolinian bank bought by a Canadian bank.

Of course I would bank with a "yankee" bank, since I am a Yankee. "Y'all" need to stop fighting the civil war and get up to speed.

having moved here from the north, i find it incredibly ignorant that people still use the word "yankee". and how insulting to southerners that one of their local bankers doesn't even think they can spell... he'll take your money though.

Unbelievable that in this day and age a supposedly reputable newspaper would ask such a question. Total page-view bait. While you're at it, why not ask, "Would you bank with a black-owned bank?" or "Would you marry a Mexican?" Seriously, I've lived all over this country, as I'm sure have many other of your readers, and I don't consider the geographical origin of my bank to be relevant. I consider customer service, fees, and convenience, not Southern versus Yankee. What century are you living in?!?
Hasn't the News & Record been bought out yet? Please, will someone buy it and put it (and us) out of its misery?

And Bob Braswell of Carolina Bank just made sure that I'll never entrust his bank with my money or recommend his bank to anyone. Apparently he believes Southerners--his customers, no less--are ignorant folks who are both bad spellers and unaware of the world outside of NC. If that's how our local bankers feel, then perhaps we're better off with Citibank et al.

No way!! I prefer to keep my money with Southern banks that fail than with successful "Yankee" banks. Chalk up another win to the Confederacy!

I would support a local and NC supported bank or company before any other.
But IMO, there are too many thankless Yankees here already taking jobs away from locals, taking advantage of the lower cost of living, encouraging needless sprawl, and all they do is complain about being here. If you don't like it, go home! I'll help you pack!

When I first heard the comment about a "yankee" bank, I thought it was a joke. But after reading some of these comments it just makes me sad.

Don't ask stupid questions. It makes you look stupid. By the way, I work at the News & Record - it really disappoints me when we do dumb STUFF - and my mother is from upstate NY - dad was from Western NC - I like Mom's family better!
