I wish they would quit bashing each other and get to the issues and their possible fixes. Also this does not say much for out country, we have two people whom one will be our next president and what are they doing, fighting with each other.....PLEASE.

How anyone can say there was a clear winner of this debate is obsurd!! I turned the debate off after 40 minutes. From the first question it was clear that neither would answer any question directly. They both skirted around the Social Security question, how people will retire without their saving, etc. They are both hyped politicians, period. Blame game only, look at me, look at me...I'm the man!! All we got was the same old rhetoric on each of their change policies. Absolutely nothing new was said by either, no questions answered, and definitely not any human feelings between them. How anyone can select a winner of this debate is debatable. With all due respect gentlemen, just
answer the questions, please!! At this point I think we need a write-in. That'd be the real
change!! Warren Buffet you're my man!!

you know J.McClain don't have no ideal what to do about the economy, all he know how to do is belittle someone name,by calling Obama(that oneone).he need to look at himself because he
don't look real himself.

It is really a shame that there is no one willing to step up and truly be a leader at this point in our national and ploitical time of need. Neither McCain nor Obama have articulated what they would do to lead this country forward and be a positive influence on socitey. Pointing fingers at "that one" and poking fun at the "truth express" are examples of how out of touch the ploiticians really are when it comes to the concerns of the most Amercians.
I have never voted a straight ticket in my life. This election will be no different. At this point a coin toss will be just about as effective as the debates in choosing the presidential candidates,
Our country is way overdue for a strong third party alternative candidate. It sure seems that a strong and viable leader from outside that articulated a plan and program for repairing our broken systems and did not play the role of a scab picker might just be enough to shake up the good old boys club that continues to play out in both the R & D camps!

If voters would do just a little research into Obama's background they would see that there can only be one choice in this election. It's sad but the Dems have put a person up for nomination who on paper looks like an America hating Marxist. Obama's friends and the people who have advised and groomed him through his life are the exact people who were hunted in the 50's as being a threat to America's way of life.
If Obama voters are looking for change, they will get it if their votes are effective. You won't know what country you are living in if he get into office.

listen to san cause he be reel smart.
Posted on October 8, 2008 9:40 AM
Come on people, Don't get hungup on the exact words he said, but rather there exact meaning. I took it as if you want someone in office who is going to tell you one thing and vote for the complete opposite, then vote for that one. That one's record on voting proves it. We didn't see Obama deny it at all. That's the real meaning.

I don't even know why we're having debates this year. It's readily apparent that Obama's buddies at ACORN are registering duplicate voters and the deceased to ensure his victory.
The government already took a couple giant steps toward Socialism over the last couple weeks, so the election of Barack Obama will only be the cherry on top. Socialist America, here we come.

If elected will Obama be sworn in on th Koran
or the Bible that this nation was establishd on?
Will he still turn his back on the flag that we have fought and died for. Will he continue to erase everything that this country stands for as he erased the American flag from his plane and replaced it with "his own symbol".

If we choose Mccain we may as well keep Bush in office. I feel that Obama's roots has no influence on his decision on America. A lot of our population has a different ethnic background or was raised a little differently but, that has no effect on who that person is because if I were Korean and African American descent, I grew up in America, then all I see is me being an American.

"Concerned" and "Wilson"--please quit propagating racist and xenophobic distortions of the truth. This type of fearmongering based on a person's name or the color of his skin gets us nowhere fast. If you have read the candidates' position papers and examined their voting records (as opposed to believing Internet e-mail forwards or the editorials on Fox News) and you feel that McCain is the candidate that best serves your interests, then by all means, vote for him. I've taken that step, and I feel that Obama is the best candidate. I am especially impressed by his cogent, intelligent response to economic, health care, and energy issues facing our nation. I appreciate that Obama's tax plan will cut taxes for people making less than $250K--i.e., the very folks who need it the most.
And, "Concerned," you mention Obama's supporters as being "the exact people who were hunted in the 50's as being a threat to America's way of life." I can only assume that you are referring to the McCarthy hearings and the "red scare," which were a blot on our history and a national shame. Let's all quit living in a state of hysterical fear and truly support "America's way of life"--a free society established pursuant to Constitutional principles where we can agree to disagree, but where all are equal, regardless of race, creed, or color.

Allyson, I too optied to look at the records as opposed to believing what is on the internet. Turth has nothing to do with a name or race. It's simply fact. And the fact is Obama's plan leads us to more gov't involvement with our life and business which leads to more taxes is the wrong plan in today's economic situtation. As it came out in the debate, McCain is the only one who has a plan to trim gov't down to be more efficient. This is the only way to save taxes for all taxpayers.

Obama is a christian. Obama graduated with honors from Harvard and was president of the Harvard Law Review (among other qualifications). His healthcare plans do NOT involve government management. McCain was 5th from the bottom in his class, never excelled at anything, and is now too old to reason well (if he ever could). The debate didn't settle anything, but the facts do.

Wilson,
Your second post outlines a position statement; while you and I might disagree on that position (I would cite the aggressive deregulation under the banner of "government efficiency" that has resulted in our current financial quagmire as evidence that "less government" is not always a good thing), I respect your right to believe and proclaim that statement, and would fight to defend that right. What I find disturbing about your initial post, however, was the attempt to "smear" Senator Obama as a Muslim ("if elected will Obama be sworn in on th Koran or the Bible that this nation was establishd on?"). First, Senator Obama is a Christian and a member of a mainstream Protestant denomination, simple as that. Second, under the principle of the separation of church and state, our leaders' religious proclivities should be irrelevant. So many members of now-mainstream religious denominations suffered persecution at the hands of state-sanctioned religion at various points in their histories (Baptists and the Society of Friends are just a few) that I find it terribly ironic and sad that we continually attempt to inject religion into politics and government.
Whenever readers hear yet another tired internet rumor ("Senator Obama is a Muslim!" "Senator Obama hates the flag and removed it from his plane!"), I would encourage them to go to www.snopes.com, www.factcheck.org, or any of the other non-partisan sites that work to dispel these vicious rumors about both candidates that simply prey on ignorance, fear, and prejudice. And if you want to know what the candidates have to say, visit www.johnmcain.com or www.barackobama.com and read for yourself.

I didn't really listen to what they had to say, for I figured I had just about heard it all by now. Instead, I watched how they moved and spoke and their general body language. For the first time, Mr. McCain appeared to me to be an ornery, old man. He seemed put out with the venue, the audience, Mr. Obama . . . everything, in fact. And he seemed on several occasions to hesitate, as I often do now, with what are called "senior moments." I don't remember having seen him this way before.
Mr. Obama, by contrast, seemed calm, thoughtful and fully in control of himself and what was coming out of his mouth.
Of course, everyone sees something different, and I'm not commenting upon the substance, or lack thereof, of their statements. McCain seemed tired and tense and Obama seemed rested and calm.
What it all means, I just don't know.
Posted on October 8, 2008 2:08 PM
Allyson,
The quagmire was caused by the gov't's manipulation of the financial sector with Fannie and Feddie's involvement. McCain saw it coming two years ago. Again, all in the debate.
As to the defamatory remarks, I agree with you. There are enough facts to discuss about issues with out the need for purely unsubstantiated speculations to be brought up about the candidates. I can't justify the thought of the other wilson. I know, odd there is two of us

Just look at Obama's record on "vote smart" he has done little and simply doesn't stand out as a leader. I am convinced that the only people who are going to vote for Obama are people who expect the government to hold their hands through life and are simply ready to surrender their freedoms and their own personal pride in exchange for bigger and more intrusive government.

I tried to watch both the VP debate and last night’s debate with an open mind. I really wanted Palin and McCain to say or do something that would at least make me consider them as a plausible candidate for what I want my Presidential Administration to be. I needed something that wasn’t a buzz word, or a haphazard attempt to discredit their opponent, but instead something that was a legitimate bit of information that really would give me that “ah-ha” moment. I need that in order to think either of them is a contender because of what they believe, say, or do instead of just relying on the emotion of their voting contingency as pointed out in earlier posts with all their bigotrous glory. It just hasn’t happened yet.
I don’t want to vote for the Obama/Biden ticket just because they’re new and different from what we’ve had the last 8 years. Even though I’m an Independent, I find myself standing on the Democratic side when it comes to most of the major issues of this election—war in Iraq, healthcare, etc. I wish the Democratic candidates would have the guts enough to firmly stand with me instead of dancing around trying not to lose even a single voter. Take Biden’s comments on same sex marriage. He initially answered the question quite beautifully by commenting on the various rights he feels same sex couples should be afforded, but when Gwen changed the wordage to a direct question, he changed his tune.
My other main issue is that the Republican candidates are making it quite hard for anyone to take them seriously. I can’t even look at a picture of Palin or hear a sound bite without thinking of the SNL debate spoof. If you didn’t see it this past weekend, you need to look it up. SNL points out what a terrible job she did both in what she said and how she said it. You should also look through the political cartoons here on the News and Record website. There are two that are very poignant: one with Palin jumping over a very low bar with “Joe 6-pack” in the background and then another with a pollster asking a lady why she’d vote for McCain/Palin and her answer is “4 more years of Tina Fey.” The sad thing with all of that is Palin has become such a joke in the media that I now associate Palin with Tina Fey instead of the other way around.
As for McCain last night, he really did look and sound like a decrepit old man. He’s trying to be the war general rallying his troops with any type of propagandized rhetoric he can. He’s like an old football coach I had who used to throw trashcans in the locker rooms before the big game to get the team “fired up”. Now McCain is throwing punches at “that guy” with information that will trigger emotion in his voters, and strike fear in some undecided voters. Low blows don’t have any more relevance to the job at hand than throwing trashcans in the locker room has to do with blocking or tackling anyone. The problem with the debate format last night was that Tom Brokaw couldn’t let Obama rebut any of those comments. Without facts and figures on hand to rebut things for us, we’re left to the oldy but goody: “87% of all statistics are made up on the spot.”
Last night’s presidential debate did very little for either candidate as far as advancing their stance in the election. The only real headway that was made was that Obama harmed himself less. He more or less kept a smile on his face and looked as though he knew what he was doing. McCain looked like he was grabbing at straws as his campaign circles the drain.

All these people turning on McCain because he is 72 is stupid. He always showed his love for his country what has Obama ever done.Obama is not a leader.IF you will check you will not want him as president.Obama turns his back on the flag and i did see it happen he refuse to saluate the flag our young men and women are dying for.Of all 3 candiates Palin has more leadership experience and is really a strong woman.Palin has been smeared just because she is a woman republican candiate and has stood strong.Obama knows the things he is promising is lies and impossible.Obama refuses to show so many things and if something comes out on him he lies about it.If Obama gets in office The change you see won't be what you like.If you would check some things out you would find a leader in pakiastan got him in Harvard and paid for his school.Wonder why no one seems to know.He lost his license to practice law in 2000 no one seems to know why about this either. He has a 1/2 brother in Kenya that lives on $1.00 a month in a 6x8 hut .His brother said he needed Obama's help he walks several miles a day to earn this but he won't help him.His cousin lost the election that Obama paid for there in Kenya and his cousin killed hundreds of people burned churchs with people in them if they ran out they were shot and he sends this cousin $10 thousand all along and talks to him on the phone. He and Michelle were both lawyers while his mother was dying in the hospital and he tells about how she had to worry and fight with the insurance company. Why did him or Michelle not do her fighting for her both of them were lawyers or pay her bills to prevent her the stress. If he does not care enough to help his mother or brother why do you think he will care about you.He said he was raised on food stamps there was not a food stamp program in hawaii until after he was grown. He went to expensive elite private schools his whole life never to a public school. He had several friends in college that were communism and some from pakaistan all refuses to answer any questions on Obama .He wrote his thesises in college on communism but refuses to let it be released and he has to sign for records to be released from college he refuses to.Obama is a unknown with no leadership experience. We have known Mccain since he was 20 yrs old.He has always fought for what was right.Palin has been judged to be the best governor that Alaska has ever had.Even the governor that was in office before her and she won against him says she was the best and went to her party when it was announced she had won.All the smears against her is stupid things that mean nothing except she is a woman who they are afraid will help win this election against Obama.Racism has no place in this election but neither does sexism.Obama showed racism with his remarks about typical white women and he has marched on Washington in demonstation against whites. In his book he said when he was 13 he started denying his white hertiage. If you believe Obama loves America listen to his rherotic it is as if America is the bad guy.In all that talk just listen a while.I have voting for 40 yrs and have never voted Republican but i will this time Mccain is not like Bush.He will straighten up the country.Think back and you will know how the democratic party has changed. When Bill Clinton ran it came out he had smoked pot and they were ready to throw him out of the race.He said he did not inhale. How much worse is cocaine and crack and Obama admitted he used a lot of these and got a pass on this.I don't know its true but there are signs i am told that him and Michelle are still using cocaine.Like i said though he is the unknown. He has got a pass on everything.Biden was wrong on almost everything he said in the debate with Palin.Palin looks like a pro. They are making a big deal about what the RNC spent on Palin's clothes but nothing about the cost of Obama's ,Michelle's and the DNC did a complete makeover on Michelle.Bien's clothes and who paid for all that botox Biden got who is paying for his hair plugs and who paid for Obama's Greek colusem for him to try to look like a king at the convention.I will go with the man i know loves his country.Yeah he looks old and don't have the chrisma that Obama has and then the injuries he received as a POW when he was fighting for you no he can't lift his arms yes he is stiff from all the broken bones he got as a pow that went untreated. To me that makes him more appealing he was fighting for his country is why he is like this.Obama said he thought about joining service but he did not want to go to war and thats always a possibility. sounds chicken to me.Check all the issues i have and Mccain is the 6 million dollar man.Obama is talk and the Biden has his foot stays in his mouth.yes the democrats are not the same party i voted for now or Obama and Biden has got passes on everything. The DNC wanted Obama as the nominee even though Clinton won the popular vote.If you went to Hillary's rallys she told the truth about Obama then and she said over and over she prefered Mccain over Obama and how dangerous he was .I worked for Hillary and know she found out a lot of dirt on Obama but being the good little girl she fell right in line and is doing what the DNC wants and lying trying to get Obama elected. If Hillary runs again after the lies she is telling for Obama I won't vote for her.I thought Hillary loved her country but she loves the DNC.Mccain has all good to say about Hillary and most of his issues are the same as hers was.Obama said in a rally that people were paying over $4.00 a gallon for gas if he was elected he was going to put tax on gas and it would be $4.50 a gallon and that tax would go to fix roads and bridges. In all that talk he does if you listen you will learn the government will be involved in everything you do and he will put the gun manufacters out of business.Life will change but not for the good.If you vote for him don't cry about it like the ones who voted Bush and then were ashamed to admit it.If he wins i have to live under him but I sure pray he loses. He has worked as a senator 100 days thats his total experience.Mccain has been a senator for over 20 yrs and fought in a war and has a son in Iraq.He sounds more qualified for the job.If it was a company you would hire on qualifications not being able to talk and say change, change and more Bush thats about all he says other than make America sound like the bad guy.If him and Michelle thinks America is so mean why don't they leave it.When Obama said typical white woman i was offened it was racist against whites if i said he was a typical black man he would throw a fit but its ok for him there is no difference though but i am sure he does not see it this way. With him always saying they are using the race card and it was a constant complaint against Hillary and Bill and I look different i don't look like the other presidents and in states he lost in it could not be people did not like him it was we were racist uneducated bitter clinging to our guns and religion.I guess hes right about the guns and religion i love God country and repect the constution even the 2nd amendentment and don't believe in murder even if it is innocent babies.I know babies has no human rights but I think it was meant different in the constution and in the Bible.I have 6 children and was married when i got pregant 4 times and adopted 2 more and i never thought of abortion or throwing any away.Palin did not throw hers away even knowing it had downs. If thats what a woman wants to do its her business i don't see how she could murder her own child but they should either use birth control and if its rape there is the morning after pill.If she don't want her baby a lot of people do.I would not try to stop abortions but it is murder and i don't believe in it but Obama's stands on abortion is the most horrfying things i have ever heard and he says he is christian he better read his Bible he is not christian he may be satan's child but he is not Christ like and thats what christian means .He is very dangerous on foreign policy he wants to increase tax while saying he is lowering them.If taxs are higher on all you buy thats a increase.Do you think if he increases taxes on wal-Mart they are not passing that cost to you. They make more than 250,000 a yr.Think people think. The small business will close jobs will be lost.Biden said his self he was not ready to be president then he said the othr countrys would test him.I don't want fighting in our streets and a lot more 9/11 do you?Everything he stands for will kill the middle class. If you listen and study the issues you will see he is not the right person for the job. When you start to cast your vote remember Joe the Plumber and spreading the wealth,Remember Biden's words on so many occasions, remember Rev.Wright and instead of God Bless America God d_ _m America, remember our chickens come home to roost about 9/11.remember the ones that called Obama the Messiah,Think of your morals, think of your childrens safety and your job and how much more you may pay for food, think of all the ACORN stuff,If you think about things I think you'll vote Mccain after never voting Republican I am proud to say I will this time.I feel safe with Mccain i am afraid of the unknown.
