Would someone please tell us what a thief can do with your SSN. If they try and get a credit card it is the banks responsibility to check for more ID.
I have never been able to do anything, cash a check by a car etc. with just my SSN. I need photo ID which you must have a birth certificate to
get and they are public record. I don't understand the big deal.

"Taking online files down because of a perceived threat isn’t an option, he says. Lawyers, real estate agents and regular people access that information daily for many legitimate reasons."
So for the convenience of lawyers, real estate agents and regular people...our identities are put in jeopardy. That is unbelievable!

Give me a break -
If you know the right people and can pay the price an illegitimate photo ID is easily attainable - almost any knowledgeable underage college student or street-wise undocumented alien can point you in the right direction -

I'm a "regular person" that uses the Register of Deeds online services. Thigpen is the only one in the state redacting the records, so I'd hold off on going after him pr people who help sell my house, etc.
Lakeshia is right. This is a lot bigger issue and shouldn't be laid at the feet of the Register of Deeds. Folks can get online and get way more information about you.

I just spent six months restoring my identity because of a low class that didn't have enough brain power to realize that ordering a computer with a stolen AMEX card required the computer be sent to the address of the card holder. I will say that he knew how to excite a parent that thought his kids thought he deserved a new laptop.
