Around the horn: Edwards edition
From other scruffy media types writing about presidential candidate and former N.C. Sen. John Edwards:
- * Just back from the frozen Midwest, Winston-Salem reporter James Romoser writes that Edwards is putting all his chips on Iowa.
More so than his rivals, he is trying to convince Iowans that he will fight for them because he understands them - because he is like them.
It's a risky strategy for a Southerner who speaks with a drawl and oozes charisma. He sure doesn't look or sound like Iowa.
- *The N+O's Rob Christensen says Edwards is trying to once again play the closer in Iowa.
- * But Charlotte's Mark Johnson reports from New Hampshire that playing the closer and toughening his tone isn't pulling Edwards up in the polls there.
- * Meanwhile, fellow candidate Sen. Barack Obama says Edwards is pulling the same type of political junk he complains about.

One of Edwards spokesman said on TV he would be the most socialist president since Andrew Jackson.
Is not Andrew the guy that rounded up the Cherokee and sent then on the Trail Of Many Tears?

Yes...But my favorite historical moment involving Jackson is he's the guy who fought the last battle of the war of 1812 (Battle of New Orleans) after peace treaty had been signed.
I think most historians would identify Jackson as a populist - something Edwards aspires to - rather than a socialist ... especially since socialism per se wasn't really a concept in circulation at the time.
