Audio: Yow and Wallace in Dist. 5
Here's some clips from the editorial interview conducted by Allen Johnson and Doug Clark with District 5 Guilford County commissioner candidates Billy Yow and Rick Wallace. The third candidate, Lisa Andrews, couldn't make it out.
So two answered questions on their support for bonds and a new quarter-cent sales tax, and then got to meaty stuff: fightin' commissioners.
For the uninitiated, Guilford commissioners are known for their open debates that occasionally turn hostile.
These are things that have even been used to campaign.
So when Wallace got first crack at what separates him from Yow, he went straight for what he called professionalism. listen

When asked about his accomplishments, Yow credited himself for getting lights up at the Pleasant Garden Community Center, stopping backroom discussions and hidden votes on the board, and said he led the drive to limit cell phone usage by commissioners on the county's tab. And cutting community-based organizations from the 2007-08 budget.

Wallace's campaign has been anything but professional.

Yeah, great call there, Tony. Tell me, are you sure you want to have this race be decided on the basis of professionalism? Because Billy Yow is known more for his coarseness, his rude behavior, and his constant antics than for sticking up lights in a community center. The people of Guilford County are sick of their County Commissioners acting like buffoons -- that's why on May 6th, Rick Wallace will become the next county comissioner from District 5.
