Suiting up

Like my friend the Barkeep, I'm in North Carolina right now rather than Denver. And like her, I have mixed feelings: these conventions promise some history and are a great chance to meet and interview folks you don't run into every day.

On the other hand, they are more ritual than substance and it does make more sense to have the budget to tackle other stories. If one wanted to push this second point, that conventions are stage managed kabuki used to present a carefully crafted message that the parties hope and pray you'll uncritically absorb, this picture might do it for you:

Yeah, Sen. Hillary Clinton wore the orange one…or is it salmon, maybe deep peach. I don't know, I'm no good with brainwashing.

On the substance end: Clinton's was a pretty good speech. But whether it was effective is really in the hands of her supporters. I'd be interested in hearing from folks who may have been upset about her loss in the primaries as to whether they're going to follow her express wish to support Obama in the fall.
