A shoutout for grandma
When the Tonkins family voted at Trinity AME Zion Church on Florida Street, there was no doubt who they were voting for.
Lisa Johnson-Tonkins, the daughter of mayoral candidate Yvonne Johnson, was voting about 9 a.m. with her husband and two sons. All were dressed in purple campaign shirts.
Johnson-Tonkins said she wanted to vote as a family and they'd spend the rest of the day supporting her mother.
Of course, her sons cast their ballots in the Kids Voting for their grandmother. And 10-year-old Jalen wasn't holding back his thoughts.
"I hope my grandmother wins," he said.
Devin Tonkins, 5, watches as his brother Jalen Tonkins, 10, fills out paperwork for Kids Voting. Their grandmother is mayoral candidate Yvonne Johnson.
