Road work faces delay due to lack of savings
Road construction in the Triad and across the state could be delayed because the state has spent its savings for road projects faster than anticipated over the past two years.

Having grown up in New York City, I am intimately familiar with governments becoming sufficiently large and burdened with welfare state spending to the extent that other worthy initiatives are crowded out. It becomes more difficult to perform the tasks that are arguably the central functions of government. North Carolina, while it may never get as bad as NYC did, is headed down this path.

Inidentally, on a matter which is somewhat related, it has been a periodic complaint of AAA that the federal government does not release a sufficient portion of the highway trust fund for use by the states. It would be interesting to know to what degree this may be a problem for our state.
