Heaven, we have a problem
Welcome to the Front Pew, our blog on faith, religion and matters of the spirit. We're having some technical difficulties that I hope will be resolved Monday by someone who knows the difference between blasphemy and a blog. Please come back then!

I'm so tired of all the so-called Christians that sit in church and criticize everything from a typo in the bulletin to the tie the pastor wears; yet they consider themselves "pillars" of the church because of their attendance over the last decades. These same folks will walk across the street rather than confront a homeless person asking for a meal; let alone ask him/her to eat with them. Are they too busy checking the bulletin to hear the "message?" Where are these folks with all the money? In Sri Lanka? I think not....They've already bought their "indulgences" by sending a check. I've spent most of my life working in churches...it never chances.

Laura, You sound bitter, my dear. Sadly, you are right in many ways. Many who call themselves Christians have no idea that Jesus commands us to love others as we love ourselves, and to be servants to others. There are some people who are trying to follow Jesus; I am certainly trying to and I know others. We will never measure up to the Lord, because we are still going to sin until we meet Him face to face. I hope that you won't let disappointing hypocrites turn you away from the Lord. Read His word, let go of bitterness and try to show others what it means to follow Jesus.

I can understand where Laura is coming from. Once you have been burned by the church and its people you don't want to enter those doors again.
That is why I study my bible, pray to God, keep chirstian friends, and listen to chirstian music all the time. You don't have to go to church to really know the Lord Jesus Chirst. He comes to where you are as long as you ask him too. For two years now church and the people have not been my focus, but God has. And I have never been more close to him.

You are right in some ways, Kelly. It is difficult to find a good church these days, and actually when you fellowship and pray with other Believers, that is a small church, as in the Body of Christ. Bible study and time with the Lord are of upmost importance, and there are some instances (in countries of great persecution, for example) where going to church is difficult or even impossible. However, Paul said, "Let us not forsake the gathering together of ourselves, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another...".(Hebrews 10:25) We are to serve the Body of Christ and we are to proclaim his death and resurrection until the day of His coming by partaking of Holy Communion. I used to have the same argument until I read the passage in Hebrews. I heard a pastor say, "Even if you find a perfect church, it won't be perfect anymore once you walk in...". It takes visiting and serious prayer to find the right Church...
