I wonder if they'll ever report on atheists serving in Iraq. {;-)

I've heard it said "there's never an atheist in a foxhole." Can't site a source and I'd definitely doubt that's true. People are people. I bet Allison would have LOVED to have found someone. And she'd have reported the heck out of what that person had to say. Anybody, anybody know what it's like to be the soldier on the warfront who didn't believe? Older generations likely pretended, even when they didn't believe.

Well, I know a few atheists who served in time of war, including my Dad, who was in Britain's Royal Navy for all the years of the Second World War. He says he never thought of any gods, particularly when his ships were being bombed and he had to fight to keep himself and his mates alive.
Then there's this "testimonial":

Enjoy!

"Our army chaplain was a fundamentalist Christian who saw the devil in virtually everything he didn't believe in. Army chaplains wielded a lot of power; their opinions could make the difference between whether or not you got promoted. So, I was quiet about my nonbelief in God."
Interesting reading. This probably hasn't changed.

Well, that's certainly true at the U.S. Air Force Academy:
