Should Sharon be worried?
Do curses really work? Or is this akin to believing Satan wears a red suit, carries a pitch fork and has pointy ears?

I expect curses to work exactly as often as prayers. They're the same thing, objectively speaking.

First, everyone knows the color is crimson, not red.
Second, i'd agree with Eric's observation. I don't believe people have the power to curse, but i do believe that prayers to satan could be answered ... at least on this earth.

Red goes back to my childhood -- everybody knew he was the guy in the red suit. I stand corrected.

I once read a book called "The Power of the Witch" -- or something to that effect. It was by some priestess of Wicca, and it told of the author's experiences in using her "powers." In her descriptions of casting spells, it struck me that what she was doing was exactly the same as a Christian praying for some favor from God.
She even told one story about driving around in a shopping district, and not being able to find a parking space. She said she cast a spell to cause a space to open, drove around the block and voila! There was her open parking space. Sound familiar at all?

I agree with Eric to a point. Some people do use prayers like that, I've seen them. I guess the general perception of curses is that they are always a negative thing. To me, a "spell" is different from a curse. Is this so?

It depends on your method of classification. To me, it's all magical thinking. You can make a case that a "curse" a "spell" and a "prayer" are all requests to some supernatural agency for assistance.
