So the church blames the woman who was made pregnant by a "church worker"? To me, this gives a pretty good indication of the chauvinist thinking that can so readily be found in the leadership of the RCC. Why anyone thinks it's a good idea to take advice on matters of sexuality or "family values" from this organization is beyond me.
Might as well ask for SCUBA lessons from a man who's lived in a cave in the mountains all his life...

Too bad they don't sell male birth control devices in that part of the country. But I've been saying all along that this abhorrent aberration of religion is really about blaming, holding down, castigatng, and otherwise controlling women. It has nothing whatsoever to do with religion, God, "church," or a bible. This story simply confirms my suspicions.
It fits, too, with today's front page story about women's health in NC being the worst in the country; after all, research dollars go into Viagra and until very recently, many drugs weren't tested on women so dosages were "guessed at" by doctors.
It's about demeaning (and perhaps killing through neglect) women.

Well, my perspective is not about the degredation of females or male dominance.
I view this as hypocrisy! It is amazing that fornication is never mentioned. All that this article seems to look for is someone to handle the financial responsibilities for the child. No mention whatsoever about the violation of the sanctity of intimacy between people that should only happen with marriage. Now I know that intercourse happens more often than not outside of marriage. Yet, the Catholic Church seemed not to care, at least in what I read, about this.
Facing the right issue at the right time needs to happen. Why should the Church be responsible? The individual people are the ones responsible for all of the responsibilities related to the child, not the Church!

I guess it's a commentary on how Catholics, like Baptists, like Jews, like Muslims, and others, don't always put to practice what they believe. I mean Catholic priests are having sex -- sometimes with little boys (according to the lawsuits) -- just like faithful Catholic women are still using birth control (according to the statistics).
My question is what would be wrong with allowing priest to marry? At the end of the day, aren't we all human?

I understand that the Catholic Church didn't forbid priests to marry until it was already several centuries old. Now, it's "hallowed tradition." In the end, it's all about the love of control. Those in power in the church love to exercise their dominance, particularly in the realm of sexual and reproductive activity.
