Houses of worship get money, too

Hmmm...The Capital Beat looks at the state budget and asks: Should religious groups of any stripe be getting state money? Comment there or here.

I think that they already get unwarranted state benefits by virtue of protection from taxes. There's no reason at all to place scarce public funds into their hands. Particularly when those funds come out of the pockets of people who would just as soon not support private groups they disagree with.

It would appear that those named do a better job of caring for those who need the care than the US government has done in decades. If they can do the job better, more efficient and certainly more economically, double it.

If churches would stop building big, modern, state of the art and COSTLY buildings and follow Jesus' commands about money, then they wouldn't need State money to assist those in need.

Unfortunatly, most churches appear to be nothing more than a big business. Instead of giving money to churches, the government should be taxing them. I bet that would put an end to materialistic Christianity.

Check out your own churches' budget. How much goes toward those in need and how much goes toward marketing, buildings, hired preachers, etc.?
