What really happened to Emily Rose

I haven't seen the movie because I'm a scaredy cat. The Exorcism of Emily Rose, the new Sony picture, was number 1 this weekend -- I'm sure it was popular with the horror crowd.
Were the Catholics right? Could this really happen?

On the EWTN link you gave, I found a most interesting point. It said that the determination of possession must include "supernatural powers."

In the description of the Austrian girl's symptoms, I saw not a single mention of such a thing. Yet they decided that the girl was "possessed," and moved forward with this superstitious nonsense that contributed to her death.

And the Catholic Church is concerned that they might be seen as something other than "rational"? Who do they think they're kidding?

Even the horror film "scaredy cats" wouldn't be upset over this movie. I went to see it, and i honestly with I could get the $7.75 and the 90 minutes back.

It tries to be everything-- horror film, Law and Order courtroom drama, and evangelical "message" film. It ends up doing poorly at all of these.

The main point of the film is a worldy, secular defense attorney who ends up a believer in the supernatural and demonic forces, while defending a priest over an exorcism gone bad. I suspect that people who already believe strongly in such things might enjoy the movie far better than someone who doesn't, because it the movie doesn't do a very good job of creating that "suspension of disbelief" that is necessary for a good movie. In fact, the audience is beaten over the head with the whole belief/disbelief question. Hollywood special effects aside, there isn't much in the movie to indicate to a skeptic that there was anything supernatural happening to that poor girl.

I found it a completely unconvincing film. Like so many such beliefs, you have to already be into the belief system before it even appears convincing. To everyone on the philosophical "outside", its very much less than impressive.

what happend to emily is not as surprising as some people think! jesus did more excorsisms than anything else in the bible.even the disciples did them out in public! so why is there so much hush hush with the catholic church about it? well the cathloic church has been taken over by satanic forces and is leading the world into destruction.people need to start dealing with the lame and the sick by not the use of drugs but by the use of the all powerful GOD. problems such as smoking to retardation can be caused by a evil spirt dwelling within you and it is only when you relize this can GOD heal you. GOD gave us the power to even do greater things than excorsize demonds to whom they fear and tremmble JESUS CHRIST." thank you for letting me share".
