Holy Trinity responds

"Holy Trinity, in partnership with Episcopal Relief and Development, is assisting in the relocation of displaced persons from the region of the Gulf Coast devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

We hope to bring some of these individuals and families to Greensboro. To do that, we need housing. If you have a rental property that you are able and willing to donate for a minimum of three months, please contact Deana Maginnes. You may e-mail her at Denamaginnes@yahoo.com). If you have questions you may also e-mail or call the Rev. Virginia Herring: virginia@holy-trinity.com or 272-6149, ext. 20."

Yesterday afternoon after several chruches in the WNC area had inquired about bringing families to this area we received a call from the United Way Hq in requard to the inquiry. According to them it is advised that this not be done because of the possibility of disease being spread from the infested areas of the Gulf, especially NO, to other parts of the US.
Hopefully there will be no major outbreaks and the people who so despartly need shelter can find it where ever it is offered.

I know that this unfortunately, does not sound like good news to those who wish to help and to those who need help. Hopefully the message will change soon. We are hoping and praying here that will be the case and all who need help will be able to receive it from those willing to give the help.

If any of you have heard other wise please post what you have heard on this site ASAP.

I called United Way again to verify what we had been told yesterday . It seems that the individual that passed the information along was correct for the moment but there are now folks coming to the mountains. No word on how many yet.

Our medical relief team just returned from Ethiopia and will be heading to NO on Monday. Dr. Paul Williams of International Healthcare Network will be heading the group of doctors and nurses from this area. Dr. Williams makes his base out of Harvest Outreach Ministries in Mills River. Be in prayer for those on that team and for all those in the Gulf Coast area.
