Stirring the pot
I guess if you can quote someone saying "life is too damn short" to hide being gay on a coffee cup, then why not mega-pastor Rick Warren on God?
I don't know if people really care what's printed on a coffee cup, or that the person taking your order in the Chick-fil-A drive thru says, "Thank you and have a blessed day," when he finishes your order.

Honestly, I really never paid attention to the quotes on the coffee cup, nor really paid any attention to the person at the drive-thru window at Chick-Fil-A. As long as they're nice and they give me my product (be it coffee or fast food), I don't think I'd really care unless it was like...
"If you eat pigs, you will GO TO HELL!" Or... "Jesus is your savior, but if you don't believe, you will go to HELL!"
If someone started doing that stuff kind of like that one crazy guy on campus that would talk about how the world was ending on the campus lawn back in the day, then I'd seriously probably move establishments. Non-aggressive behaviors usually don't cause any "stirring" except for the extreme ends of the spectrum.
And the whole gay thing is stupid. If you had no clue who Armistead Maupin was and in what context, do you REALLY think that:
"life is too short." - Armistead Maupin
is really going to spark a... "omg... he's talking about hiding from being gay." Uhh no. That's just a stupid fishing tactic.

I don't patronize Starbucks. Anyone familiar with Foamy the Squirrel will understand ...

I don't get upset over anyone inserting their personal beliefs into everyday transactions. After all, no one bothers me about the atheist themed t-shirts I wear. So it evens out in the long run.
BTW, Ben, I got the impression that the Maupin quote on the Starbucks cups was more like "Life's too damn short to hide being gay." That's my attitude about being atheist. So there.

By far, the funniest little gems are on the hot sauce packets at Taco Bell.
"When i grow up, i want to be a water bed."
Hah!
