The next Eden?

A place in the U.S. where 'abortion is illegal, gay marriage is banned, schools cannot teach evolution, children can pray to Jesus in public schools and the Ten Commandments are posted publicly.'

If that's your thing, no one's stopping anyone from moving there. Although that part of SC doesn't scream Eden to me. But hey... I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

These folks remind me of the Pilgrims. The Puritans left England, complaining that they weren't free to exercise their religion freely. The paradox of their quest for "religious freedom" was that they wanted to build a religious community that was far more restrictive of human liberties than England would allow.

These people heading off to SC are the same. They don't like real religious liberty because their ideals are directed toward theocracy and exercising absolute religious power over individuals in the name of orthodoxy.

They are far from the first to want to isolate themselves from the rest of the world in order to exercise their beliefs without restraint. Heck, they're also not the first wishing to build their movement into a political force that would sweep over the world. The early Christian Church did the same, as did the Muslims after them and the Mormons are working on it.

The real problem is that every time this happens, the freedom of the people suffer.
