Baptist toughen gay policy

"(The Bible) says a homosexual cannot go to heaven, and yet people ordain them to preach the gospel when they are not going (to heaven) themselves," says messenger David Martin. "We shouldn't write them off. We shouldn't be hardhearted -- but you have to take a stand."

I've heard more than one person say, "At least the Baptists are honest." I wonder if gay Christians really care.

First, NO WHERE in scripture is the word "homosexual" used. This is a 19th century word that has been erronously placed into a pre-1st and 1st Century document. This cannot be so. How could the writers of such a document know of a word that did not exist? Next, how can people in the 21st Century expect to be respected when they use subterfuge?

And as for the comment, "At least the Baptists are honest," how are they honest? Is it honest to do what is listed in the previous paragraph? Is it honest to try and exclude people from God?

The God that I know of and KNOW does not exclude anyone. Through God in human form, ALL people are instructed to "come unto me." So, where is the honesty?

As for gay Christians caring, yes, this one does!

As a former memeber of the SBC, I am totally saddened that this day has come. Yet, I am not surprised. As I have noted in another posting, this is the culmination of the hijacking of the SBC that began in 1979. This group should no longer call itself Baptist because as a whole, this group has abandoned Baptistic principles.

And regarding caring, I know that there are mainline Christian groups in NC that will accept Christians who happen to be gay! They even accept women in leadership roles!

So, this group has only alienated itself from people. Forming a cliche will only bring more trouble. As I once heard, when you fill a pit with vipers, they will eventually begin to attack themselves. So, this is where I see the NC SBC heading. Give them time and it will be seen.

On a more serious note, foundationally, people with this belief have not firm biblical stand. Even Hebrew scholars have difficulty in giving a comprehensive translation of the texts that are commonly used from the Hebrew scriptures. And regarding the texts from the Christian scriptures, there is a complete lack of contextual understanding, not to mention the historical aspect as well. The cultural aspect seems to be totally disregarded as well.

So, let the NC SBC form their own little cliche. God is still in control and one need not worry about what the SBC does or does not do!

Shalom

Notice they're not excluding gluttons or gossips. No one would be left in the SBC.

I do hope all this sends a message to all those SBC Baptist folks that are not open about their orientation. They don't want you! Get out!

Thankfully, there are still some sane voices in Baptist churches in the State.

Does anyone really take the State Convention seriously anyway?
