Looking back at 2005
Who was the most inspiring person of 2005?
Here's Arlene Leingang of Mebane:
"This is a very difficult question. After all the national disasters that have struck us this year there are many people
who qualify, especially people in New Orleans whose names we don't know but have put their "backs against the
wall" helping so many people.
Then there is Peter Jennings who did more for the fight against lung cancer in the last months of his life by sharing
his illness and agony with his viewing audience.
The American fighting military man in Iraq so many so young and his brave, brave family giving everything so we live a safe free life.
I don't watch daytime television and don't know much about talk shows but I do know what Oprah Winfrey has done for the people in the South affected by terrible hurricanes. Not only does this woman respond to victims of national disasters but she seems to find the helpless when she can and reacts in the positive to help when she can. One
of our daughters is a very successful executive in New York for one of major television networks and she said to
me one day, "Mom, Oprah Winfrey is the one person I try to live my life as she does" and her network has nothing to do with her show.
This is a very difficult question to answer. One of our neighbors is Dr. Terry Farmer the pastor of one of the Baptist
churches in our town who left his home, family and church and spent so much time in one of the towns hit by one of the hurricanes. This man always is there for the helpless and the grieving Baptist
or not. He is a wonderful man.

..person of the year..George W. Bush..hands down
..story of the year..Katrina..without a doubt..the very thought that our government blew up the levies to flood the poor 9th Ward is disgusting, and shows the ignorance we have among our electorate, sad people died because of incompetence on all levels, but yet the fact remains MotherNature will humble us all.
..biggest let down of the year..partisanship of our politics, middle ground is gone and wont be back any time soon,if ever!
