Attention delegates

Online registration is making it easier and less time consuming to sign up for the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting, being held in Greensboro this summer.

Islamic cartoon

This seems to be spiraling out of control.

Jesus as Kanye?

Blasphemous? Pretty funny (if you get to the end)-- bad language alert.

Mass -- and pending -- Katrina evictions

Have Katrina victims had enough time to get back on their feet? I'm thinking that the government has a good point - these people can't be taken care of forever.

Is this viewpoint heartless? If so, at what point is a victim's life back to what he/she makes of it?

Death toll over cartoons at 10

What's your prediction on how this will end?

God's ideal candidate?

"In his dream America, the one he believes both the Bible and the Constitution promise, the state will simply wither away. In its place will be a country so suffused with God and the free market that the social fabric of the last hundred years -- schools, Social Security, welfare -- will be privatized or simply done away with. There will be no abortions; sex will be confined to heterosexual marriage. Men will lead families, mothers will tend children, and big business and the church will take care of all."

Even on the Sabbath

Is this a statement against organized religion? If it was for thrills, wouldn't the thrill be gone by now?

Happy Valentine's!

Here's a love story of a different kind. Enjoy.

He's likely not the only one, but...

The Episcopal Church's first openly gay bishop, V. Gene Robinson, has started treatment for alcoholism, a spokesman told the Associated Press on Tuesday (no links yet available).

My question: If he had these problems beforehand, was his election
more of a statement, or was it deserved?

Hmmm...

I'm not sure if I really want to know.

Of the bomb-shaped turban....

Read this and tell me what you think.
Already, I've gotten this comment:
"Hi Nancy, while I have not seen the cartoons, I would say that the one deplicting the prophet or whatever they call him with a bomb as his turban would have been hitting the nail on the head...or maybe the noggin, (Pun intended!) I still have seen no muslim leaders condem the violence they have done.
When I see cartoons or attacks on Jesus I don't go off, I just figure someone has an opinion that I don't share...then I try to educate them."

Is this the best way to protest?

An Asheville pastor says he won't perform any marriages between a man and a woman because the state won't recognize marriage between same sex couples. Is this fair to the people in his church?

Blessed are the peacemakers

Lots of times we only know people in death. One of the paper's Faith Matters contributors recently wrote about teenager Micah Leake who recently died after battling leukemia. Here's the definition of a good neighbor, a good kid:

"Micah liked to bring peace where there was strife and kept in mind the needs of others. Especially during the four years of battling leukemia, he was very sensitive to the desires of others, and did not want to be the cause of anyone in the family missing out on something. He tried hard not to be an inconvenience. On one admission to the hospital, when he was trying to decide if he felt well enough to go home, he heard a nurse say that they had 5 admissions and only 3 beds. So he decided he wanted to go home that day, so someone else could have his bed."

Is Myrick right?

Is this prejudice or prudence?

Prominent evolutionist speaks here

Scientist Eugenie Scott is in Greensboro Friday at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greensboro, talking evolution and intelligent design. She's prominent in the science community -- often being called upon to help parents trying to keep "intelligent design" out of their schools.
What's your question/comment for Scott?
