It used to be that churches/houses of worship sponsored skate night or a free movie to reach young people. Now there are family life centers and this. What do you think of DayStar's unique approach?

It's like Christian rap. Putting lipstick on certain animals doesn't change the fact that they're still the same critters. {;-)

Daystar has adjusted the message to reach a generation that does not know of the "old" way/s. That philosophy is nothing new. Churches have been seeking to do this for the past 25-30 years.

I just found it very funny that there were like only one or two members still at Daystar since the new pastor came along with the "new" vision for reaching people. What does that tell us about the "older" people of our society?

It's ironic, though... "DayStar" is the Sun. It's almost as if these folks are advertising the way their religion was started, morphing away from the old, Pagan sun worship. Makes one wonder what these folks will make of "The Da Vinci Code" when it comes to theaters?

I'm not particularly enthralled by every aspect of Daystar's approach, but at least they're doing SOMEthing to reach young people who are being ruined and depressed by the empty culture of secularism, materialism, fertility music and sexual abandon. I pray for their success!

I wonder what the cynics, who so smugly put them down, are doing that truly changes lives for the better?

Am I the only one who is disturbed that Kernodle PUBLIC school has basically given a classroom space over to a church to use not just for after-school club time (mandated by law to be spearheaded by CHILDREN, by the way, NOT a pastor), but also used as the church's regular sanctuary???

I am told something similar is also going on at Nathaniel Greene.

Why isn't the ACLU on this?

You're just jealous. But don't worry... the Christian fertility holiday is coming up soon. Too bad it doesn't include all that "sexual abandon" stuff, eh?

My guess is that there's nothing illegal about schools renting out their facilities to any outside group during non-school hours. I recall a church for Native Americans getting started by renting the auditorium at Smith High this way many years ago. It's weird, but apparently legal.

"You're just jealous." (Eric) "Judge not and ye shall not be judged" (Jesus).
Only God has that prerogative. Discussing and critquing ideas in an objective context is one thing, but judging individual hearts is a grievous sin in God's eyes.

Christians do not always see things alike when it comes to worship and ministry style; which is perfectly OK. The more radically contemporary approach of Daystar is clearly more successful in reaching numbers, for which I am thankful. The more traditional, liturgical approach is difficult to grow in our secualar, postmodern social context, but there are profound values in that approach that I personally treasure; even if it is often frustrating and difficult to grow. If I ever do feel the upwellings of envy,I simply repent and give thanks to God for how He is using Daystar, and pray for their success in communicating the Gospel to young people. And I'm sure there are things to learn from their example, as well.

I agree that The Feast of the Resurrection (I try not to use "Easter" (Astarte etc.) and avoid all pagan trimmings (bunnies, eggs, etc.) I'm not on a soapbox about it, but there is no warrant in Scripture for it. It IS too bad that the fertility barnacles have collected on the hull of the Resurrection celebration; but there is a legitimate remembrance of this great truth of the Faith. In fact, every Lord's Day (not Sabbath) is a celebration of the Resurrection, especailly in Holy Communion.

And it's great that it does not include "that sexual abandon stuff." Sexuality is a gift from God, to be expressed in the context of sacramental, covenanted union between one man and one woman. All else is outside the bounds God has proscribed for human beings. Our culture has chosen Bachanalic lust instead of God's wonderful plan for true happiness and fulfillment - and is reaping all the terrible consequences thereof. As the entire Scripture declares and demonsstates, only God's ways bring life and peace; all else is "sinking sand." But all our modern pop commentators can do is laugh and deride both God and His Word, which is nothing new.

But God and His eternal plan will inevitably prevail, because truth can never be opposed and ignored for long. Only God' gracious allowance of time for a sinful and rebellious race, known as human histroy, enables men to vent their godless words and actions. That will someday come to an end; thanks be to God!

" . . . times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because he has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead." Acts 17:30,31

Try renting it out to an avowed atheist group. It is more than weird; it is plainly privileging the dominant Christian hegemony.

The best news is, they are going financially under. I especially hope the too-cool teens who were laughing keep their sense of humor.
