Da Vinci going nowhere

Christian anger has been red hot for The Da Vinci Code -- not only is it raking in millions, but there's talk of a Code 2.

The faithful aren't going anywhere either: From a sign in front of a Whitsett church...

PRAY FOR:
RONNIE HOWARD
TOM HANKS
DAN BROWN

I'm wondering... has anyone heard of anyone having a "crisis of faith" or even changing their religion because of this book/movie?

I assume that this is the main fear that is generating all the negative reaction. I mean, why label this "blasphemy" unless you think it's going to do some sort of harm to the religion?

Now come one, it's just not nice to ask questions (even entertaining, fictional ones) about people's religious views. If you don't have anything nice to say, keep yer trap shut.

I suppose if any artist even dares to make an entertaining bit of fluff that questions afith, they are risking hell and damnation? Jimmy Joyce, so long. Sayonora, Sammy Beckett. Even the tried-by fire Christians like Dostoyevsky are in trouble...

No playing with Christianity as literary fodder, now. Every word is inviolable and absolute and must never, ever be put in any other context!

Is it possible to be a living human being and do that? Does the mind work in a vacuum?

The attitude exhibited by some of these folks smacks of the Taliban. There's no sense of humor in these folks (mainly because there's little to no humor in the Bible, I expect), and no toleration for points of view that are different from theirs.

I'd venture to suggest it's very possible that people who are praying for "Ronnie Howard" and his soul could be.

The probelm is that the Code is part of a much broader media/lib-courts assault upon traditional faith issues - all designed to weaken belief and commitment (so that red states will turn into blue states in Nov.) It's like their smelling blood and moving in for the kill. The bottom line is that biblical Christianity is in the way -of all the varied elements of the liberal/lbertine/atheist agendas. Without active Christain opposition we would have had many more millions of dead pre-borns and LAMBLA (?)would have its own sitcom.

But, I think its actually good for the Faith, because it has limelighted Christain history and doctrine, generating much discussion all around.
Romans 8:28!! God is supreme and His Kingdom WILL prevail - goodness, love, light, biblical justice, are all winners in the end. No fear here!! "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done."

No fear? Well, maybe more than an average dose of paranoia.

But there is one thing to be concerned about in the ideal world of Sir Nikos -- "Biblical Justice." Having read the Bible, I have a fair idea of what THAT would be like. Far too barbaric for any enlightened human being to countenance is what that is.
