Just another whining Democrat?
Or does Madeleine Albright have a point?
"I worked for two presidents who were men of faith, and they did not make their religious views part of American policy," she said, referring to Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, both Democrats and Christians.

Actually, because they tried to make the system a little bit more helpful to our society's least powerful, moderate-to-liberal Christians might well argue they DID make their religious views part of American policy, or tried to.

I think it would be ridiculous to expect anyone to keep their philosophy completely separated from their decisions while in elected office. Just because a person's philosophy grows from their religious views, doesn't make them automatically invalid for government.
But I believe Albright has a valid concern. When she was interviewed on The Daily Show, she described her "meeting" with Our Glorious Leader. Unlike other presidents, she thinks Bush has allowed his religious views to give him a certitude that is unique. His attitude appears to be "God gives me orders, and I'll follow what I'm told, regardless of the facts or others' opinions." When you have someone like that with a finger on The Button, you're just begging for a world-threatening disaster.

Well-stated, Eric and Lex. It simply isn't possible to divorce one's mind and way of seeing the world (lenses, if you will) from the influence of one's professed beliefs. These must have an impact on decisions, or what purpose would they serve? The danger, I agree, is the "absolute" stance Pres. Bush takes on so many issues, not allowing for the very real possibility he, as a mere mortal, may be "mishearing" or "misunderstanding" what his god's orders are. Recall Lincoln saying he wasn't sure God was on the side of the Union, but he certainly hoped the Union was on the side of God...
