Oh man. I thought we only got one circus a year coming to visit this town. Are they sending in the freak show early?

I'm torn between thinking Phelps would go away if the media just stopped publicizing his antics and thinking that, no, people need to know that there really are people walking around free who are, or at least are willing to publicly act, that batbug insane.

Phelps is an attention whore (if I may use such a crass term here), plain and simple. He knows he has no hope of getting others to change their minds. But he purely loves to be hated, because it gets his name in papers and his face on TV.
If everyone ignored him, it would hurt him deeply. Unfortunately, he's so insane that if people really did ignore him, he would try to find some new way of getting attention -- one that's even worse than what he does now.
You ask me, I'd love to see him try to emulate Ezekiel... that would fit him to a "t" {;-)

Who'd have thunk it would be the Condi interview fiasco that had more impact than Fred Phelps's visit on the image of Greensboro in DC and on salon.com?
