Jerusaleum countdown

Check out Ed Cone's blog and comment here or there. I had planned to write a column about this.

It is so typical for Ed to tie Christians with Islamic Fascism... much like what Macus Kindley did with gays and pedophiles. No basis in fact. Only ignorance of either faith.

"They see, and even sometimes seem to embrace, the notion of a global conflict between Islam and the Judeo-Christian West, just as do many zealous Muslims."

Okay, so tell me ... with bin Laden and his cohorts calling us "Crusaders," and our President getting chided for using the word at the start of the Afghanistan war -- which side seems to be closer to the truth here?

I've seen comments from Christians on-line that appear to imply that they are hoping America will drop atom bombs on Damascus. I presume that some verse in Daniel or Joel or some place like that "predicts" the fall of that city... but it really seems nothing short of barbaric for people who are supposed to be all about "peace" to be sitting in their homes at night, wishing to see millions of people vaporized.

I'm happy that the majority of Christians I know are not like that, but knowing there are such hideous ideas floating around -- and very likely floating around the halls of power in Washington -- well, that's pretty sickening.

I'm sorry Eric, but where in mainstream Christianity did you read these comments? I am calling your bluff. I don't think there are any.

Please note, Chip, that I didn't say "mainstream" in my comment, and I didn't even try to imply that the comments I have seen were from any leader. I said "from Christians on-line." As in from blogs and Usenet postings. Get a grip, dude.

I also made a specific comment that said that these views aren't held by the majority of Christians I personally know. Between you and me, I hope that the folks I know are representitive of the "mainstream." But with folks like Rod Parsley and John Hagee spewing a constant stream of assurances that the Apocalypse will be starting something like next week to their congregations of millions (on TV) --- how long will it be until such lunacy becomes the "mainstream"?

You are pulling a Marcus- conflating Christianity with Islamic Fascists. Mainstream Christianity doesn't tolerate violent extremists, though mainstream Islam embraces it.

You CAN'T be talking to me. Or are you unable to parse my message that was written in common Ennglish? Or are you not aware of what the term "mainstream" means? Because you certainly don't appear to be using it the way it should be used based on the dictionary's definition.
