These inane alternatives offered by the PCUSA for the traditional appellations of Father, Son and Holy Spirit reflect the theological reductionism that afflicts the liberal denominations, because they have left the sure moorings of Scriptural authority. Thus, they have no problem, it seems, altering, in key and substantive ways, creedal formulations which are essential to correctly communicating the Gospel of grace and the sound teachings of Scripture. But since they no longer either embrace or understand the Gospel, it is clearly irrelevant. All that matters, it seems, is gaining the blessing of their secular gurus.
In the article, Hank Hanegraaff stated that Christianity is not patriarchal. Not so: both OT and NT are unapologetically and demonstrably patriarchal; not in the oppressive and domineering sense, but in the theological and functional sense. That is, men are clearly created by God and called to be heads of their marriages and households, and leaders in society as a whole.
If women marry and have children they have ipso facto chosen their new careers, and their priorities should shift accordingly. The idea of “having it all” is pure urban myth. Some careers can be done from the home on a limited basis, but farming kids out to the daycare mills is nothing short of parental irresponsibility.
As galling as it is for feminists, the Bible neither portrays men and women as the same in nature, nor identical in function, but as equal in value and capacity to know God. However, they are called to express their spirituality in different ways, making marriage a dynamic union and partnership. To reduce this marvelous design to flat, unisex egalitarianism is to attack the very heart of God’s model for husband and wife. It is equally counterproductive to reduce the relationship to macho and mouse.
Sadly, the liberal denominations have become myopic parrots of the humanist establishment, having sacrificed their biblical inheritance for a mess of pottage that bears little or no resemblance to the “faith once delivered to the saints.” The consequences are even now disastrous, and the future holds more of the same.
