any church is not above the law of the land. if there are specific and clear guidelines which govern a tax exempt organization, the imo it behooves that organization to do what is required and necessary according to the law, in order that it might retain the tax exempt status.
if this church violated the law and it can be proven then they must pay the price just like any other organization.

>>I’m not saying to vote for John Kerry. I’m just saying that the Iraq war, tax cuts, abortion restrictions, and nuclear testing make baby Jesus cry. If you want baby Jesus to cry, then by all means vote for whichever candidate supports these anti-Jesus policies. But if you are asking “What Would Jesus Do?” — well, He would pull the lever for the peacemaker. As between Kerry and Bush, I can’t tell you who that is — but I can say this: it sure as Hell ain’t Bush.

Asked after the election whether he regretted the sermon, the rector said: “No regrets. I only wish I had preached it with greater intensity.” See, because Bush won . . . and the whole point was to get Kerry elected.

You can't use a pulpit to tell people who to vote for. Seperation of church and state works both ways.

The pulpit was used quite powerfully to galvanize the colonies to press for independence. And they surely didn't cower from praying and speaking for victory over the Nazis.

Actually the State has NO business telling preachers or churches what to say at all: liberal or conservative, black or white, Protestant, Catholic or Jewish. Uncle Sam, get your mitts off - completely!!!!!!!!! Tape you tape recorders and secret agents and bug off!! - and stop interfering with the free exercise thereof.
