Buying babies or changing lives?
At first I had problems with celebrities like Angelina Jolie and Madonna adopting Third World babies, based on their public personas. But celebrity begets attention to orphaned or abandoned baby causes --and why should we care how many babies they adopt when the babies are getting the chance for a better life?

I have often thought about what I might do if I had practically unlimited wealth. Becoming an anti-Fagin (literary reference that I hope is readily understood) in a third-world country is one option that has crossed my mind from time to time...

this latest adoption (?) by modonna appears to violate the law of the land inasmuch as before one adopts they must be a one year resident. it seems as money and popularity (a $3 million donation) greased the right wheels. what we must remember that while its brings light to those children in that region, the majority (imo) have neither the financial resource nor the celebrity to circumvent the adoption system. and i wonder realistically how many people can make the one year sacrifice to adopt in that region ? i am happy for the child modonna took from that environment but personally i can't see it helping the average child there or the average person who wants to adopt.

I wonder what the faith of the boy's father is? Should those who adopt raise the adoptee in their "native" faith? I imagine Madonna's faith will continue to "evolve" as does her image.
It took her some time to cozy up to the image of "mother to the wretched", a la her namesake.
