I read this in the article:
"All of Macy's window displays will have Christmas themes. At New York's Herald Square, the theme will be "Oh, Christmas Tree."
"Our intention is to make every customer feel welcomed and appreciated, whether they celebrate Christmas or other holidays," spokesman Jim Sluzewski says."
Please forgive me for being a bit dense. With all their decorations, signage and muzak aimed squarely and exclusively at Christians, how do they expect to make "every customer feel welcomed and appreciated"? It seems to me they can only do that if they expect to only see Christians and no one else.
Frankly, I think these stores are acting scared over nothing. Sure, a few theocrat wannabes made a few waves over the past few years because they didn't see the exact signs they wanted to see when they went shopping in December. Boo frickin' hoo! I went to Wal Mart a few times last year and NEVER saw any cash registers going unused.
Certainly, the point has been made here in the past that Jesus' overall message was hardly compatible with commercial excess. It's really hard to fathom what these idiots were crying about in the first place.
Me, I'm glad I've pretty much finished my shopping for the season already. I won't have to deal with that retail BS this year -- just for a change...
