Science and "speaking in tongues"

"The passionate, sometimes rhythmic, language-like patter that pours forth from religious people who 'speak in tongues' reflects a state of mental possession, many of them say. Now they have some neuroscience to back them up."

Or is it "Witch Doctors in America."

It's an interesting thing to watch, this interplay between science and religion. One has to wonder why it is that religious people are so fascinated with the notion that science can be used to "prove" their faith is real. Are there deeply-buried doubts about the truth of their faith? Do they think that a clear scientific support for some belief will make their belief more widely accepted?

Makes me wonder at times...

They approve of science when it suits their purpose . Yet they blast that same science when it disagrees with their "holy book".
