Seems like one of those things that would just fade away into the mists of time, with little or no effect if not stoplighted by insinuation and criticism. The Afro Gestapo is worse than Big Brother (or the ACLU): ever watching your every move and word hoping to find something to lambast publicly.
In order to prevent a fascist takeover of our culture every little nuance of racial expression that does not fit their lofty standards of puritanical inclusiveness is pounced upon with a zealotry that beggars the mind.
Lighten up folks before you generate a backlash of bigotry you really don't want. Anytime one tries to represent a time period or ethnic art form, every effort is made to make it look authentic. It would seem that's what was going on here. To imply more is perhaps imposing a scrutiny that few, black or white, could bear up under.
