Preferential treatment or good sense?
Nancy McLaughlin is on vacation, but keep checking for blog updates.
I know this is a desperate plea from someone who doesn't want to go behind bars, but should we start making these exceptions? The good of this: much-needed help for the poor. The bad of it, I guess, is that we make an exception for the educated or talented (football camps conducted by an extremely talented double-murderer)?

Seems to me that Black could perform his service to the poor while residing in prison. I think he'd be OK for a work release program, don't you?
The point is that he harmed the state to his own enrichment. Our system is set up to punish such misbehavior with time in prison. If he's not willing to take the consequences of his actions based on the agreed upon rules, then he harms the state again. Equal treatment under the law, dude.
