Fearing the Nazis again
"Watching 50 years of strength crumble under the weight of a long-buried trauma made Kane's family sad and angry. What they did not know at the time was that her experience was not uncommon among aging victims of Nazi brutality."

Horrifying to read what happened to many of these survivors and heartbreaking to discover that they are dealing with PTSD - and that age has only magnified their nightmares. It is good to know that methods to help them cope are being devised and that perhaps what the caregivers and doctors learn from this will benefit all who suffer with PTSD.

What these people (this generation) suffered in the name/cause of war should cause a lasting impression on all who know of it. It should be a resounding reminder of the cost of war and why we should be working for peace in non-violent means rather than through aggression. Oh when will we ever learn?

Actually, if the "allies" had launched a powerful pre-emptive strike against the Nazi horde years before the invasion of Poland there would have been no war in Europe, no millions slain, no holocaust and no survivors to heal.
When buildings start blowing up because of the violent attack of an implacable enemy, there is only on sensible and biblical thing to do - stop them at all costs - unless we donl't mind our loved ones being systematically murdered.
I'm afraid the tragedy of Auschwitz et al. is a the sad result of too littel too late. As Chamberlain learned all too well, waiving paper hopes in the air, talking peace peace peace will not stop the determined fiend, whether Nazi or Jihadist. I am not talking here of questions of timing, strategy or degree of military action, only that it is a necessity in a sinful and fallen world of maniacs and demons.

Nikos (and others), imagine what it a wonderful world it would be if ALL who claim Christ would lay down the aggressive weapon and studied war no more!
George Fox was recruited by the British military to become a commander due to his charismatic personality and debating persona. That, and he was the leader of the fastest growing religious group in England at that time. Finally, the British military person noted to Fox that if everyone believed as he (Fox) did that there would be no need for an army. Fox is reported as saying to that British military man that he had admitted that his (Fox's) was was the better way! That to me is a clear view of the sin of war/aggression.

No doubt, war IS hell. No one in their right mind could assert otherwise. I hope and pray for the spears to be turned into pruning hooks and all that sort of thing; but we're not there yet. Certainly if everyone would just believe in peace there would indeed be no more wars - but that is most definitely NOT the case.
9/11 shocked us into an awareness that there are still demoncally driven nuts out there who think nothing of blowing up tens or thousands of innecent people just to prove their perverted point. You do NOT deal with these folks with a gentle smile saying, "peace brother." They'll laugh as they run you through.
The goal of the Gospel is, in fact, that all people be made members of the Body of Christ - the communion of peace and godly love. And Christians are admonished to live at peace with all men - if at all possible - that is, if they are civil enough to not attack and kill you, your spouse and kids.
But the peacable kingdom cannot come until the King of God comes "on earth as it is in heaven." In the meantime God has ordained that covenenat nations arm themselves - well! so that the Hitlerian, Stalinist and Jihadist monsters can be held at bay, or destroyed, if necessary. But that doesn't sit well with ascetically minded peaceniks and milk-sop liberals who get thier strokes by trying to out-hate the military and roll over and play dead MOs - just hoping that the monsters will have a change of heart - Yeah, right! It's la la land.
On the other hand, we should NEVER go to arms without very good reason and excellent planning, so as to accomplish the military objective with the lowest loss of like - theirs and ours. But get the necessary job done!
Peace will come ONLY and WHEN a sufficient number of people around the world have been redeemed and changed inwardly by the power of grace, conveyed through the Gospel. Otherwise, sin will always raise its deadly head murderous hate and destruction.
The Prince of Peace, and He alone, can bring ultimate rest and blessedness to the earth. All else is impotent chaff, blown away by the winds of error and unbelief.
Although I support a strong and vibrant military in our nation, I am by no means a rubber stamp guy, who uncritically assents to all decisions and policies. But I do revere and honor those who are willing to lay down their lives for mmy loved onese, and our nation. But I pray all the time for peace and the coming of the Kingdom - which is ultimately in God's hands, not ours.
