What's on your heart about 9/11?
From Dolly Strand:
"Today is the day we as Americans need to sit back and reflect on 9-11. Pray for the loved ones of the victims; the wounds on their hearts and minds that will never heal. we need to stir up our faith in God and look to him for guidance because we need him. It's not a matter of if this happens again but when this happens again. Our hearts need to be right with Jesus. We don't know what each day brings or if the breath we breathe this very second will be our last. I can't stress enough how important it is for those of little or no faith to come to know Jesus. When you go to your place of school or work pray for those around you that they will come to know Jesus and for a faith stirring for those that need that faith renewed. For those of you who read this and need that stirring of faith or have little or no faith, please know that you are in my prayers. Thank you for taking the time to read this."

Why should it take an anniversary of an event to bring it back to the forefront of attention?
While what Ms. Strand notes is fine, should the level of devastation and loss of life that occurred on 9/11/2001 only be brought back to the forefront of people's attention once a year?
It also would seem with the news media as it is, that this event would never be far from people's thoughts.
With that in mind, I find the pretext of Ms. Strand's writing shallow.

Every time I reflect on the events of 9/11, I am astounded that Americans looked at the result of religious extremism... and dove into their own brand of religious extremism to try and ease the pain.

"Why should it take an anniversary of an event to bring it back to the forefront of attention?".....
let's think about this for a minute..........
we celebrate/reflect on birthday's once a year, wedding anniversaries once a year, deaths in family once a year, freedom from addictions once a year and etc. i just think it is human nature to want to bring some special significance to certain events which are dear to us.
considering this is a 'spiritual blog' maybe i should interject that even our God set aside/prescribed certain times of the year to be observed for certain reasons. hopefully darryl you will not accuse God of shallow pretext.
eric i'm not sure i agree with your term 'extremism' here. do you believe anyone of faith (whatever that faith may be) is considered an extremist. again i believe it is human nature to retreat to a comfortable place for solice when needed. so for me it is not extreme to look into my faith to find comfort and possibly ease my pain.
where do you go eric when you wish to find comfort in trying times ?

after rereading dolly strands comments - then rereading darryl comment stating he found her pretext (sic) shallow - i want to ask darryl which of the follwing comments she made, seem shallow to him and to then explain why he feels this way.
her comments wereas follows:
1)Pray for the loved ones
2)stir up our faith in God
3)look to him for guidance
4)to be right with Jesus
5)come to know Jesus
6)pray for those around you
7)you are in my prayers
personally to me she sounds like a woman of Christian faith and leading a gospel driven life.
