I would observe a few things:
* I believe the movie has also been criticized for promoting religion. So it seems people are using this movie to promote whatever agenda it is they have at hand.
* As I read the trailer and book summary, the story really promotes the questioning of authority...in a glamed-up Hollywood sort of way. I guess if you're in a position of authority, you would object to that message.
* If whatever doctrine - be it religious or otherwise - can't stand the test of someone watching a two-hour movie, then it's probably not that good of a doctrine anyway.
This thing looks like it has more in common with Star Wars than the Last Temptation, but I could be wrong. Looks interesting though...might try to see it while I'm on vacation.

I loved reading the books, and while the series did have bad guys that were running churches (among many other things), you really can't cut it down on that account. To do that would imply that the church is run by nothing but saints, and recent history tells us that's certainly not the case.
The books are top-notch fantasy, stuff that has the potential to tell its audience much about life... if you pay attention.

this should be a no brainer for Christians - don't see the movie !
" would imply that the church is run by nothing but saints".................................... correction - the church is comprised of saints and headed up by Jesus Christ.
i think eric pegged it fairly well by stating this is
"top-notch fantasy".
