Dalai Lama may name successor
TOKYO -- The Dalai Lama has said he may appoint a successor or call democratic elections before his death instead of relying on reincarnation, a Japanese newspaper reported Tuesday, following recent orders that China must approve Tibet's spiritual leaders.

It never really made sense to me that as soon as a Dalai Lama dies another youthful protege soon emerges, who was born well before the Lama expired. How does the old D.L.'s soul enter the new Lama who already has a soul. Maybe I don't understand the dynamics. I welcome clarification.
